My Guy is in need of a good shearing. He is a pretty big Llama, though and there aren't many shearers in my area who will shear a Llama. Has anyone ever used hand shears on their llamas or alpacas before?

We used a pair of scissors last year which was quite a drag. My Boy was very good about it. He just stood for my mom and I and didn't even squirm.

I love my Llama, his name is Llama Star.

Yes, you can use hand shears. I think you will find that it isn't much better than the scissors though. It is easiest to use electric shears.

You are in for some work but you can do it. For only doing one a Whal hair clipper set about $25 would work ...you just have to go slow.

My mom has a set of just regular dog trimmers. They are electric and have the medium and I believe the larger heads to attach. Would this work or would his wool be too thick?

Is there good space between the teeth? If they are regular heads, then it probably wouldn't work. But you could always try it and see how it does.

We use hand shears on our llamas. It does NOT come out very neat, but they feel better/cooler when we're finished.
