May be getting two Icelandic ewes, 5 & 3yrs old, for fiber. Need to sell off 5 Babydoll ewes and one ram this year!!

What do you know about the breed and fiber???

They are one of the northern short-tailed breeds. They grow a long fleece and can benefit from twice yearly shearing. Their fleece has 2 parts - the tog is the long outer coat and the thel is the softer inner wool. They can be spun together or separated out and spun separately. Lopi yarn is from Icelandic wool.

They don’t need docking and are considered triple purpose - wool, meat, and milk, but their milkiness will vary based on their lines.

Similar to the Shetland, they come in a variety of colors and patterns.

I don’t have any personal experience using the wool, but it seems to be popular with hand spinners. The wool also felts easily. It’s also low in lanolin so it’s easier to wash.

Need to get updated pics of the mutts and yearlings. Cards don't list tags for some mutts.
Also need to do an even longer dock on my mutts...so hard to tell in full wool.

I don't think the black mutt is pregnant. Spotted her doing the ram antics ewes in heat sometimes do.

And this POS!! She'll be 2nd on the sale list as soon as lambs are born.

Got the sheep rounded up for tomorrow's shearing!

Magnemite had a secret leg injury. Vet in the morning. Looks like an older injury with some "proud flesh" type of growth. Not exactly that, but best way to describe it. Has a buyer lined up, if things work out on their end. So, not going to try and fix it myself.
