Sorry for the loss and the troubles.
My Goats are on a dry lot. I take them out to let them graze several times a week. Other than that they get loads and loads of hay, I keep it available at all times. I grain my girls because they were with the buck and I am hoping for babies. So until I see them come into heat again they will be treated as if prego. I also grain my young ones as they are still growing and much more active then the adults(play). My boys don't get grain at all. I cut branches from my brush line around the property and through into the dry lot. Ones the branches are stripped, I clean them back out. Usually every other day. I will be extending my pen to pasture the goats for the next two months, then back to dry lot for the winter.
Spending time with your goats and getting to know them is the only way you will know if something is not "normal" for them. I have not had trouble with parasites(thankfully) partly due to dry lot, partly due to purchasing goat from same seller and partially due to no other animals have grazed this property in like tens years and I have two huge pasture lots to rotate on. Pasture rotation helps keep parasites down as well.
Hopefully, you get your friends other goats back to healthy conditions. Good Luck and it's great that people have friend such as your self.
To end, I always tell everyone to read everything and anything you can find on goats.
