I'm looking to build a garage, maybe 24' wide by 30' deep (with a possible overhang) with the rear being partitioned off in order to create a very small barn. Does this sound doable? My biggest concerns are 1) money, 2) safety, and 3) functionality. Money is only first bc if it will be too expensive, we will not build and we will not get goats yet. My safety concerns primarily center around fire and fumes. We don't do super toxic, heavy duty work on our vehicles, but if we're talking about gasoline vehicles and accompanying fluids being in the same structure as animals, I want to know that the animals will be safe. I'd like to put in an interior wall and door separating the 2 spaces with the wall being cement/fire proof board. Also, I do not plan on storing more than a few days worth of hay and straw in the building. Would a concrete floor w/ rubberized roof sealer and straw and sleeping platforms be adequate flooring? Would 2 windows and high vents be adequate for airflow? I'd like to insulate. What material would go between the insulation and the animals? Plywood or sheetrock coated with the same roofing sealer? Any other things I should think about? Has anyone seen something like this done? We would like to get 2 Nigerian doelings and breed them when they're +-1year old. So we'll need 2 kidding stalls and 1 milking stall. Would 4'x9' be big enough for each stall if there are 4 of them plus a common space of 6'x9' where the doors would be? They would be outside during the day with a separate small daytime shelter. Would this be enough? Remember, we will have babies but I'm planning on only keeping 1 doeling (if that) in addition to the 2 original goats and I would only breed 2 of them per year. The building would either be attached or detached with a walkway to our full, unfinished basement, so I have plenty of room to store supplies there, too. If anyone has seen something like this, do you have pics? Thanks so much for your input and I'm sorry about all of the questions.
