OK...so you know how I said I didn't want to start a whole herd of goats? Yeah...well.....
As we wait impatiently for Clementine to kid, we are being gifted with a horse! (sweet horse, daughter's dream come true)
She comes with all the trappings, including her two companion goats, Annie & Ansel. LOL!
So. Fencing questions. For more goats. Ha.
I built my current goat pen to house my two alpines and their kids until the kids are sold. I really don't think it'll be adequate for four full size adults, and occasional kids. And I sure wouldn't want the kids to get trampled.
Since the new goats are companions for the horse, do they need to live with her in her area? Or just nearby-ish so they can see each other? (Ansel's a wether, and Annie apparently develops a precocious udder every so often but hasn't been bred.)
Will a 2-strand electric fence keep them in the horse "pasture" area? Strands are at about horse-shoulder height, and about halfway between that and the ground. Property perimeter fencing is 4 ft welded wire, hence the electric fence all the way around the "pasture", which is about an acre.
At first, we plan to keep horse & companions in the round pen while we make sure the "pasture" is clear of rocks & holes. Do we need to line the round pen with welded wire? I'm assuming they'll crawl out. Or will they stick around bc their friend the horse is here? They don't have horns.
