DH and I have had our own farm for 20 years! I grewup helping on the neighbors farm before I was really old enough to be of much help on up until I got married!

The vets do not like emergency calls from me. It is never an easy call for them as we do much of our own vet work. The last calving call we had-if I remember correctly, it's been awhile-was a c-section. I've had them tell me to shutup as I was scaring them with the detailed info I was giving them at the truck!

We are still a small board but I think you will find a lot of info here.

This is sooo cool!!! But...I don't think many of us have cows, huh?? LOL So, how are we going to learn about cows when there's only a couple of cow owners??!! jes' sayin' Any road (British for anyway), I think it's great there's now a BYCows site. Oh. One thing my father taught me when I was a girl... the cows in Canada say "La Mooo". Good ol' dad.
Welcome, I think you will be surprised at how many folks on here either own or have an abundance of know=how on cows. LOL

kitty thats like our vet.he knows i wont call him for anything unless its a C-section.backwards calves prlapses we do ourselves an have done for years.had a vet out because a heifer was in labor an we could not pull it.i told him to cut the calf out 1 peice at a time.that it would be cheaper.he checked an he couldnt cut the calf out.ended up doing a C-section on her an got a 130 to 140lb hol heifer calf out of her.if my memory is right he charged $300 for the C-section.

I think the last C-section we had was $250 but, it's been a few years. That cow has been gone two or three now and she had a couple calves after that! The vet didn't think she would live and if she did he said chances of breeding her back were next to none!

Ours too! We like to beat the odds here. It's when a vet says the cow most likely won't make it that they do well. We have one vet I call Mr. Doom and Gloom because he always seems to end up here with the worst cases and I say, "Oh good, it's you, she will make it." :gig

Hi Guys I'm new, been lurking for about a week. My horse died this March so I have pasture for a cow. Am in the process of getting a beautiful girl Rosie once she is bred. I see another member here in Buckley, maybe I've driven past your cows! Anyways I have a lot to learn & excited about my new adventure!

Hi Jody & Welcome! :coolsun
It's a small world! I live off of Old Buckley Hwy, Between Maris and Haugen Farms!! Where are you?
You are going to love this site. So sorry to hear about your horse. I know what it feels like to loose an animal friend...it's really hard. Keep in touch! :frow
