One of the sheep I just got was laying down. I figured it was a good time to give her the once over. On her belly next to her groin area there were "holes" on both sides. What is that? I checked the other ewe and sure enough they were there too. I am new at this so be nice. The first ewe I checked, her "holes" were gross. Kinda like gunked with wax.

Thanks for any input.

ETA: How many teats do ewes have? Don't laugh.

Can you post a picture of the holes, maybe stand the ewe upright, while someone else take the photo?

Reading your description is not making sense to me. Are holes bites? Open wounds? Rubs from dirt they lay in? Or are the teats themselves gunked with waxy lanolin?

I will try to take a pic tomorrow. It just happened that I caught her laying down. No, not bites, I don't think they are open wounds. They are almost where the leg and bag meet. They remind me of nasty bellybuttons. I am trying to find a decent anatomy site. No luck.

I'm not sure what that is but it doesn't look good. Obviously something is going on. I would at least clean it with betadine or something. And agree with above post to call a vet.
