Uncommon in this area is gaited anything. I wish, I'd love to know more about them and get out there and experience some of them. :( Glad I got the TWH mare when I did, but want to find out more.
May I recommend this site:

These are the folks I bought my 4 yr old KMH gelding from. Breeding is their 2ndary business, so they've cut back on foals, and wait for buyers--no rush to sell. They have several yearlings and 2 yr olds and a really nice 14'2hh, 15 year old mare (in foal for 2011) for sale, and just rock-bottom dropped the price. I'm pinching pennies, but if I had a windfall, I'd buy her. They breed for pleasure-riders and they are fussy about temperment. KMH's are much smoother than TW's--I've owned both.
BTW, I've done my research KMH and Rocky Mountain. The RMH is based on a single stallion, like the Morgan. He was a KMH, who'd been bred out West, had a super temperment and super gaits, was ridden by practically everybody, so everybody wanted to breed to him. Just FYI. :D

That's just want I need, 2 more enablers.

I have 9 horses now, and last I checked I can only ride one at a time. Hee hee, took on a few rescues 3 years ago and still have them. Too fussy about their forever home to let them go, rapidly becoming their forever home.....

However I will look at the link. Looking can't hurt, and it only leads to buy... wait a minute!

My friend sold her gelding, to another acquaintance of ours. We never really sell our horses, we just swap them with friends periodically for money. :)

Now that sounds like a plan! I could do that.

Those RMH are interesting. If I win the lotto I'll be right over with the new truck and trailer. Right now the rig I have I'd never try drive that far.

I think I'll start a trailer rant thread.

I have a mare that is double registered RMH/KMSH. I love her dearly but if you are looking for something with really strong gaits, I would go with a TWH. My mare trots more than gaits although I can "push her up" into the gait. There are more strongly gaited RMH's out there but TWH seem to be more consistently gaited.

dsqard, it's gotta be the horses. I have had 3 TW crosses, one purebred TW and now own two KMH's. My 4 year old KMH is one full hand taller and lankier than the average KMH's and I know that with their small numbers that they have been forced to breed TW to get a wider pool of gaited. ALL of my TW crosses had a chunky trot on them. In fact, all 4 TW's/crosses had 6 gaits:
-walk
-running walk
-canter
-trot
-pace
-broken washing machine (our QH/TW cross"Tyke" would do this when he was mad at you.)

My KMH mare WILL trot in the field but never under saddle. My 4 year old KMH has just pulled out his trot out this summer. We rode all over the Black Hills, SD last year and he never broke into THAT. I know that my DH doesn't want it, so we half-halt him out of it.
Honestly, when my mare transitions between the walk, amble and canter I don't feel the transitions. I did with my TW's.

Lots of variety. Our most popular are QH,Paint,Missouri Fox Trotter,Minis,Tennesee walkers, paso finos, appys, draftsand grades and ponies. We also have arabians, saddlebreds, spotted saddlebreds,TBs,and some heavy drafts like percherons, friesian crosses, belgians and spotted drafts, and lots of unusual draft crosses. Lots and lots of different kind of horses. Thats just a few I have seen!
