what breed is this rabbit?

I show a mini rex rabbit in 4H and during fair take down, we discovered that we had an extra rabbit. Turns out some lady dropped the rabbit off in hopes that someone would take it, so I did. I thought it was a Californian, but I am now not so sure. Any ideas? she is very sweet, ~6-7lbs.

Hi the ARBA has a breeds page and by comparing the rabbit yourself to the breed standards they have might be the best choice, from the pictures you posted I could guess it is an New Zealand Black Rabbit but I believe there are many breeds that have black as an official color so I might not be completely correct.

See that would bother me. I've had to many issues with bringing in sick animals. I haven't let the kids do fair animals yet but I've about determined that anything that goes won't be returning. I just had a issue with bringing a sick rabbit hone from the farm store & that was to much work cleaning up to be repeating any time soon.

Clearly not a Californian; they are white rabbits with dark noses, ears and paws. If she is full grown, 6 -7 lbs is much too small for a New Zealand. Havanas come in black; they are pretty much that type, and a similar size (4 - 6 lbs). She could be a mix, but if I had to pick one breed, that would be my guess.

I was thinking Havana myself. And for King, she isn't sick, she was just abandoned. She is perfectly healthy and very sweet.

You never know. I don't know how long this has been to know if it has been long enough to be cleared.

I bought some rabbits at the farm store then went back to get some more. The second trip I came home with 3 rabbits that were all sick & I didn't know it until they were already there. The store didn't know they were sick ether. I was still trying to explain to the lady how I knew they were sick when one of their's fall over dead in the cage.

A few years ago I bought some goats from the market & lost my whole heard even after spending hundreds on medication.

I have 4 different locations for my new rabbits. I couldn't get them all from the same place so I have the rabbits I already had where they will all end up, the rabbit that was sick in its quarantine pin, then two more quarantine pens because of two more different people that rabbits came from. It is quite a bit more work but not near as bad as cleaning the farm up after sick animals. Which I just got done doing again. Not to mention the expense.

It will be one more year before my farm is clear to raise goats on again.
