What Breed????

Im really new to pigs and I dont know what kind of breed I should get? I want ones that are calm and docile, and do not get really big! Im just want them for fun and to feed some of my table scraps too. I live in Michigan so I need to make sure there sort of hardy. So what breed should I get? Also would you recommend males or females?

Does the above statement mean you are not planning on eating them?

Most male pigs have taint & you certainly do NOT want an intact boar around for fun! Barrows (castrated) males are probably the easiest pigs to have around. Large Blacks are VERY docile but can get large.

I would recommend American Guinea Hogs if you are just wanting something to love and feed, possibly eventually butcher. They are slow growers, but they are lovely little hogs that are easy to handle and quite personable. Other smaller pigs that are nice to have around are Potbellies or Kune Kunes. I don't have much experience with full-size hogs, other than we have a york-X right now that is a basket case
