ETA: We are getting Mini Panda Cows! Does anyone on here raise them?
Never even heard of them until this post but I guess I'm more of an old school farmer or at least the older breeds.
For a small acreage I would consider Dexters. They are a small breed with excellent growth rates and moderate milk producer. You'll get the best of both worlds.

They are 75% Belted Galloway :D crossed with Dexter - so they are a runtish mini type crossbreed :hide

All the pigment around the eye will do is keep them from getting skin cancer around their eyes.
Talked with a fellow Hereford breeder about it yesterday. We had a cow get cancer on her eye and she had full pigment around that eye so that blew that rumor all to heck.
herfrds, I don't mean to high-jack this post, but is there anything you can do to prevent cancer on the eye? I have a heifer and a steer with white faces. Thanks!

And, to Rachel's Hobby Farm, the Panda Cows look super cute. Best wishes for you and your farm!
