What color to breed to?

I have this NZ doe that I got back in the summer. (She’s huge now but this is the only pic I have of her on my phone) Other than being broken I don’t know the exact color of her. I’m wanting to get a buck but not sure the color to get. I’d really like some tri color babies but I don’t know if that’s realistic or not. I’ll try to get updated pics when I go out to feed today.

What are your goals for the kits?

She looks like a broken steel from this view.
Steels are not showable in NZ.
Meat or pets not sure it matters of colors. Though pet people do seem to gravitate to brokens.

I’d like to have some big babies but with flashy colors. It doesn’t even have to be a buck NZ. I’m open to crossbreed offspring.

This girl is a sweetheart, she’s currently in a pen with my smallest lionhead doe who doesn’t do well by herself.
I don’t show but would like something that can be for pet or meat. That way I have more of a market here.

Breeding her to a checkered giant might give you big babies with cool colors

I'm not sure that tri's (broken harlequin) would be possible with that one. But since your doe is a broken, you do not want to breed her to an English Spot, a Rhinelander, a Checkered Giant, or a rabbit of any other breed that has the broken gene. To do so is to risk producing Charlie's (rabbits with two copies of the broken gene) with their inevitable digestive problems. Whatever you breed her to, it should be a solid color.

I forgot about Charlie’s. I’m glad I asked because I had been thinking of harlequins or a broken red NZ.

It's been hard to track down a solid color buck. I dont like the whites and that seems to be what all is around here. I had a friend find me a blue NZ buck that is freshly weaned. But it will be months before he can breed.
