What do you do when you can't think of a herd name?

I feel your pain! I spent months writing long lists of names and going over them a million times trying to decide and checking and re-checking which ones were taken!

We just settled on Harlequin Nigerians (the registered herd name is just Harlequin for space reasons) and got the name and our tattoo, NG3, registered with both ADGA and AGS.

After all that stress it is really a relief to finally have it done! My biggest tip is, CALL the registries to ask if the names/tattoos are available. The books and online lists are NOT up to date. AGS will even let you register a herd name and tattoo over the phone (if you are a member) so you don't have to worry about someone else getting the name registered while your application is in the mail! And AGDA lets you request a herdname online.

Our Farm name isn't real original I don't think....well really I don't know...never looked for it, but I've seen similar names out there...

"Run-A-Muck Ranch".......

One day it just POPPED....and that's what we went with....

now I just tell everyone with all the animals we have (and our 2 daughters) we are always RUNNING (that's where the 'Run' comes from) and with animals(different types and breeds) comes manure (that would be the 'Muck' part)....lol
So we just put them together.....

I had lots of other names....some I really really liked, others not so much...and in all honesty "Run-A-Muck Ranch" wasn't even on the list....

Not sure if this is the type of stuff you were looking for or not, wasn't sure when you have 'herd name' in the title....I think I took it as meaning more like for your 'herd of......(fill in blank)...ie sheep, goats, rabbits, etc. etc.

The herd name is for the registries. In your case for Run-A-Muck Ranch, when you register your kids with ADGA/AGS and/or NDGA, their registered names would be Run-A-Muck Ranch Sassy (or whatever name you chose). With ADGA, if you don't have a herd name registered with them, then your kids' names would start with "The" instead of Run-A-Muck Ranch, as in The Sassy. My herd name is my farm name.
