Sorry if I am posting a question that has already been asked. I've been trying to look up info and am a little confused. I am new to goats, just got my Nubians in March. Had a newborn buck this past Sunday 6-26-11 (unexpectedly!) The only thing I have on hand right now is the CD/T vaccine (not the ANTItoxin) Probios, dewormer, loose minerals, Vit B and of course their feed.

What do I need to keep on hand in case of any "emergency" something that is a MUST HAVE just in case it's a weekend or holiday and can't run to the feed store?? Or do I need any other vaccinations? I've looked on a few websites and there are a lot of different vaccines and vitamin supplements that just confused me. :barnie

PLEASE HELP!! I know the BUCKS need different vitamins right? He is just 3 days old today. Any help will greatly be appreciated!! :D

What dewormer do you have? I would have atleast two families of wormer on hand.

i would have a atleast one of the coccidiosis medicines on hand if not two of them.

some Penn G

Needles and syringes

thermometer

Anti bacterial scour medicine, like Spectam-scour halt

The list can grow and grow, but these things will cover most things until help arrives or vets office is open.

Maybe some Ammonia chloride for Urinary calculi or some "Fruit Fresh" on hand just incase.

Buy the smallest bottles of everything, it does expire.

I have Ivomec and Ivesco goat dewormer concentrate. I'm not sure if they are the same medication or different. Don't have them on hand right now. I did order some syringes and needles from Jefferlivestock.com seemed to be cheapest bout .22 cents each rather than $1 each @ the feed store! I'm heading out to the feed store right now with my list! Thank you very much!

You don't need everything on the list to start out but it is a good comprehensive list.

I second 20kids on some must haves.
Thank you. This was very helpful!! This is exactly what I was looking for! :weee :celebrate

Sorry, got another question. My momma goat had nice pink eyelids throughout her pregnancy but is starting to look a little pale today. Is it ok to deworm her or should I wait a little? And when can I deworm the baby or do I need to do a fecal first? The Ivesco Goat Dewormer Concentrate says it ok for pregnant goats. But I don't know when I should deworm?? I did deworm with Ivomec in March and she was pregnant but I didn't know. So I haven't dewormed again since.

I know I read several places that after giving birth, goats can be very susceptible to worms and other parasites and it is recommended that they are treated. As far as the actual medication you choose, I'm handing that one to the pros because I've only done this once. I used a pelleted form, safe for lactating and pregnant does, but it was also pointed out to me that I should a) vary what I use, and b) be super careful about this pelleted stuff to ensure they consume enough of it to actual get the job done and not create resistant worms.
