Never too late. You can have any pig breed or cross as a favorite.

OH OH OH! I have a new one! Since I don't really have the room or desire to have large hogs, I am getting American Guniea Hogs. They are my new favorite just by what I have been reading. Hopefully I will be getting a boar to start my herd next weekend :)

My favorite breeds are Landrace and Duroc and crosses between the two. Quiet and easy to work with - maybe because of thier floppy ears? And they taste good!

I am glad to see everyone highly recommending large blacks because my husband is going to pick up a few for our farm on Wednesday. I am also glad to hear that they are really docile. Of course we read up on them and researched them but it is always better to hear it from those who have first hand experience. Wish us luck!

Enjoy! Pretty sure you will have no regrets. If you are picking up piglets then they will probably be very scared & skittish for the first few days but once they get used to you they will tame down very quickly & it shouldn't be too long before they are "asking" for belly rubs :)
