Trying to come up with a good wheat/gluten free feed mix for our pig coop. 4 families 2 pigs. One family purchasing, giving hay, and caring for the pigs the rest of us buying the feed and all sharing equally of the meats. Anyway one person is needing/wanting gluten free feed and honestly i think that for my celiac child it would be good too. I am having a hard time finding GOOD sources of info on mixes for a beginner tho. Advice welcomed! here is what i have come up with tell me if i am way off

100lb mix

field peas 40lbs
sorgum/milo 40lbs
Oat groats 15lbs
Camelina 8lbs
Premix Mineral pack 2lbs

Plus table scraps, hay, garden stuffs......

thanks!

Might be a little off topic, but my wife has celiac as well. Diagnosed 9 years ago... Why are you looking to feed a gluten free diet? The gluten CAN'T be passed on through the meat...... We enjoy our chicken, beef, lamb, venison, all of which eat wheat either growing (deer) or in our misc. feed with no ill effects on my wife...... Just curious....

Honestly I am not concerned as much as this other lady is. I realize that gluten contamination in meat happens in the butchering process NOT in the feed. But one of the women in the goup is convinced that the meat is going to be giving her issues. Number two some research suggests that hyper sensitive celiacs can have reactions. Like my nursing child can become contaminated through my breastmilk if i chose to eat gluten therefore all animal/milk/egg product feed gluten can cause issue. sooooo i am just wanting to not fight the issue and instead feed a GF/gmo free diet to the pig

Most pig feed contains soy & corn & finding non GMO/Organic can be very difficult not to mention EXPENSIVE.

field peas 40lbs
sorgum/milo 40lbs
Oat groats 15lbs
Camelina 8lbs
Premix Mineral pack 2lbs
Not sure where you are but if you can get rolled barley then that would be a better option than oats. We have fed both & found Barley to be much better. ALSO purchase pigs that do well on pasture therefore cutting down the amount of grain needed. Heritage pigs are a great choice.
