I have 2 calves on buckets, they have been on the buckets for almost 2 months and they still want to suck as soon as I'm done feeding them. I've had them together in the same pen, but them sucking on each other was driving me nuts, the little one was always sucking on the bigger ones ears and little utter, and then she would get her head peed on, and the big one was trying to suck on the little ones navel, so yesterday I separated them into their own pens. They are not happy. Will they get over the sucking thing, or do they keep wanting to suck till their weaned.

Pretty much until they go to eating grass:/ Some are worse than others and you're right to separate them, esp if they're going for udders and navels. Are they eating grain well? I usually dump grain in their bucket the minute they finish their milk and that can give them something else to switch their attention to. Or at least suck on their bucket rim.

They are eating grain and alfalfa hay, and I put them out in a pen on grass on the weekend and every other Wed when I'm home from work, and when I can't put them out I cut grass for them. I do put them in the outside pen together and they don't seem to be interested in sucking out there, to busy running, bucking, eating grass and sleeping in the sun.
