Hello all! I have a Pygmy doe who is 136 days gestation today and not due until March 31. Over the last two days I've noticed she's been laying around a lot more. She's still eating and doing normal goat things, just probably exhausted being so heavily pregnant. I noticed yesterday that her udder has probably grown by a third in size and she's dripping milk. She had a little mucous discharge yesterday also. Today she has ALOT of whitish goop. I can't post picks right now but I wanted to know if this does happen to be the beginning of labor, is she far enough along now for babies to be ok? I have no idea how to check ligaments. I know from following others posts that they say you can see and feel the tail bones if they are soft? If that is the case, then yes I can feel tailbones on the hind end. Could she just be losing a mucous plug, maybe? The udder worries me, though. It's huge and full of milk.

Anything can happen when breeding animals. It sounds pretty normal to me at this point... she will be full term in only nine days and I've had goats with the same 'symptoms' for almost two weeks before they actually gave birth.

I'd certainly keep a very close eye on her in case things do happen to soon.

Hopefully people here with far more experience with kiddings will chime in and give you more specific advice if they think it sounds bad.

Was she only bred on one specific day? Because she could have done a 5/6 day heat in which case she's due in 3-4 days not 9 days.

Just a theory.

And they drop the plug about 3 weeks to 3 hours before they kid.

She was bred on November 2. We dont have a billy. We borrowed the neighbors billy and did a drive-by. I went out to take pics and of course the goop was gone. She doesnt seem nearly as big today??? Im thinking she probably just has one kid, although twins would be great! I am thinking I am probably reading into it way too much. After looking through my pics, I dont thik shes close. What do yall think?

I'd say at right around 2 weeks out it was the plug you saw. She'll probably whine and moan and shift and stretch and do some braxton hicks type things just to get you well and good freaked out over the next two weeks. Then on April first she'll pop them out and look at you like "What?"

She looks about the size of our doe, and she surprised us with twins. Hoping for twins for you! Happy kidding! Her udder also looks like our doe's did about a week and a half before she kidded. GOOD LUCK! Can't wait to see those babies! :pop

Yesterday she boomed and I went out to check this morning and she has a big goopy nasty thick mucous thing hanging out of her hoohoo! Tail crooked and hollering. She was contracting a little yesterday- maybe the prebaby jitters but today looks like the real deal! She's 146 days gestation. Is this it???? Omg I hope so!

Shouldn't be long now! Stay close by, but refrain from being in her face till you know it's happening. All my does are super friendly and in my face all the time, but when it comes to kidding, they want to be left alone. This is when a baby monitor or camera would be ideal. Good luck!
