They are about 5 weeks old and are eating well. When should we band and are we too late to de-horn and what would we need to burn with? Our boer goats keep their horns so we don't have anything.

Thanks
Kim

My vet says to burn horns when they're around an inch. I'm a wimp and have him do that and castrate at the same time. I've got a 7 month old Jersey heifer that ended up being polled--yay!

It's definitely not too late to band them, nor dehorn. You can either burn the horns off with a cauterizing gun or cut them off with a horn debudder.

Time to band for sure. Just learn from others mistakes, and by "others" I mean ours. MAKE SURE you have both testi through the band. Or...you will end up doing surgery later down the line. :D Yep, two little Jersey bulls, two surgeries. We like to call it one of our learnings on the farm!
