We shave their udders as well as clip all over when we show.

We didn't clip the first time we had kids, but we do now. Clip the udder as close as we can.

But, we usually don't shave udders any more when we milk. Like Pearces Pasture we filter the milk, but have never really had a problem with hair in milk.

I shave the udders (sanitary cut) about 2 weeks prior to kidding date. It just helps keep her cleaner after birthing and during milking. As someone else mentioned, when you start milking, you may have to do some touch up.

Well, I gave my first goat haircut today! I'm not quitting my day job to do that full time, unless I get much, much better at it. LOL! I did use clippers, and Ginger wasn't too happy about the whole affair. At least it's done for now. Will just have to trim her up later down the road once she starts being milked or just before she kids. Her udder seemed more firm today, than it has been, but not to the point that I think she will kid soon. I'm checking her round ligaments daily and they seem to be softening up and thinning out slowly. She's so big I hated to have her get up on the stanchion to trim her up. I remember being big and pregnant way back when and how uncomfortable I was, so I have a certain amount of empathy for her in that regard. She's a trooper though and really sweet. She really enjoyed the dehydrated apple slices I gave her as a treat for undergoing the trim. She's special.....

Okay, here is a picture of Ginger's "brazillian wax" I did yesterday. I'm also posting a picture of her udder taken on 12/21. I think the udder looks bigger and hopefully she is getting close to kidding. Compare the 2 and tell me what you think? Oh, sorry but she isn't holding up her tail today so I could get a good picture. Like I said, I'm not a very good barber! LOL! I see a huge patch I missed cutting! :th I was nervous about cutting her with the clippers. I think it will take a little more practice.....
