Word of advice. Build it strong. I bought a used wood dog house (from petsmart originally). Looked great, until the goats started climbing on it and pushing each other around in side. Before I knew, it was fallinga part.

I kinda like building stuff by myself, with the help of my DIY books, that way no one to second guess you or say "wouldn't it be better to do it this way?". Of course, I do appreciate DH when it comes time to lift heavy stuff :) Good luck, whatever you build will be fine with the goats you know. And, your coop is really cute.
Thanks the coop was build with what I had...this one I have to buy for, have my material list made out, just waiting for my pay check and the dang snow to melt.

When building on a budget (or with no funds) there are creative ways to get materials...I like to do these things even when I do have the funds, why waste money when you don't have to?

Where to find materials?

*Pallets! I love using pallets as a building material. Check with lumber yards, stores that sell flooring, Craig's List and more.
*Construction sites. Ask the project manager if they have a scrap pile that you can look through.
*Factories. They can be a source for pallets, lumber and sometimes some odd items that can be repurposed...ever say one of those 300 gallon cube shaped tanks with a cage around them? If you can find some that held water or soap you can repurpose them for livestock housing.
*Friends / Neighbors / Coworkers. Put the word out about what you're looking for.
*Estate Auctions. I bought an entire "garage wall full" of nails, screws, handles, etc for $5 at an auction (I bought everything that was on the shelves of one wall). I didn't have to buy hardware for a year!

Thanks Elevan, good advise from you and all, I plan to use pallets for the floor base, and to beef it up so they can get on the roof and stomp around in side. I'll post pics along the way. :bow
