wood wast replace corn in pig diets

An Asian science group is working on a new variety of pig that can utilize waste from the lumber industry instead of corn their making them by spliceing the gene in termites that allow them to digest wood and putting it into the pig genes their working on the pigs so far they have only done it with mice but thats is all thats known so far but I think if they succeed on making to a readily avable type of pigs then that would cut down on the feed prices and recycle the waste that the
Lumber industry produces already

That is a neat concept but I wouldn't touch those hogs with a ten foot pole. GMO/Franken-food isn't my thing. I think they'd be better served using existing breeds and developing a strain that is basically fool proof, giving farmers ten pigs every litter and maturing at seven months so they are ready for breeding. In my opinion a consistent hog would serve a better purpose than one that could utilize wood and lumber industry byproducts.
The idea is still really cool though.

Yeah a pig that has large litteters
And gives a consitent product would be good but if they make the pigs readily available I would properly buy a couple of feeders just to see if I like it or not the only thing that I can see as a proplem is that the huge lumber companys might raise swine because they own the feed and they might push the smaller pork producers out of business

part of me wants to think this is a joke but the other part of me knows that people are continually trying to change genetics to produce frankenfood and make a profit. I'm like M.L. i wouldn't touch that pig with a ten foot pole either. the reason i raise my own food is to stay as far away from GMO as i possibly can

That is just wrong. Selective breeding to improve the breed? Yes. TERMITE genes in the pork? Oh HE-- NO!

Great, just what I need a pig that not only chews on my pens but actually Eats them !! I can see it now, My barn was built in 1909 & eaten in 2018 !!!
