Is it the inner ear that is infected, or the external ear? If it is the external ear (inside the ear or out - just not inside the ear canal), and the horse will let you touch her ears, clean them well. Do not get water inside her ear - use gauze squares moistened with peroxide (or whatever type wound cleanser you have). Don't saturate the gauze - you don't want anything dripping into the inner ear. Mix some swat with an antibiotic cream and apply sparingly to the affected areas. Clean the ears daily and reapply the ointment after cleaning. Once the infection clears up, continue to reapply the swat to her ears to keep the other bugs from causing more problems.

If the infection is actually inside the ear canal the horse may need to be put on antibiotics to clear it up.
