Wow. Maybe a sedative for the dirt road? Can you call your vet to prescribe something for Boone, to a vet where you are?
Yes. That’s the primary reason why I’m taking him m, but I don’t want to drug him every time we go somewhere šŸ˜ž

Orher dogs have been an issue. Boone doesn’t mind other dogs who mind their business, but at nearly every store we go in are small to medium barking dogs allowed the end of the leash. I have trained a lot in pet friendly spaces like Lowe’s, the Feed Supply, etc so he has been exposed a lot. Restaurants and Hospitals, Medical buildings and BANKS, SHOULD be a place where I can relax but now they are the places we seem most likely to be attacked.
I always have Boone’s collar in my hand as that is what keeps me from falling.. He is also attached to a ā€œdog walkingā€ belt which I don’t recommend because he absolutely WILL take me off my feet, but should the worst ever happen and he does choose to go after anything, he will have to take me with him. I was dragged by a horse or two after breaking colts for 40 years so I know I’ll at least survive.

I carry a can of citronella spray with me always.

Going inside the pain clinic, a man had an 11 lb fluffy parasite on his lap that began its shrill barking and snarling from the back of the room as soon as it saw us. Boone let out a startled woof and they asked me to remove him. I didn’t feel up to arguing (I never do) so I took him out to sit with Randy as these appts are always pretty quick.
Of course I dropped my phone in the restroom after having to take a drug test and had to kick it down the hall until I found someone to pick it up for me.
I’m going to retire him from public access and resign myself to using the big walker and Fen from now on. I’m tired of all these faux SD’s everywhere we go.

It's very, very true!! A tremendous discourtesy & disservice to needed & trained SDs. People with no conscience to bring "fido" in as an SD, who's not šŸ˜žšŸ˜” just to bring them in the stores.

Most feed stores welcome all leashed animals & they are usually well behaved. Not the grocery idiots.

Just tell them to
"Shut your fake service dog up, that behavior is unacceptable"
You can leave the 'fake service" out if you wish because it still holds true. Those people and their untrained dogs make it tough for people like me who have well mannered trained dogs as well. It's harder and harder to take my dogs out to different places. This includes ..... are you ready for this....... outside, open air farmers markets.

I've actually approached a couple -- nicely but -- and once told they were just a pet, I politely reminded that only trained service dogs should be there, I got some mixed responses. 🤣 So far have been smacked....one was thinking about it tho. 🤪🤫

I've suggested my own were not there because...
And even talked with some who actually were true service dogs, complimenting good behavior and agreeing with, about the "pretends".

Used to be different. I look at it as if they were illegally using a handicap parking!!!

It took over 2 1/2 hr to go 35 miles and get Boone home. He is terrified as soon as we hit it. He’s fine on pavement but he gets dangerous on the dirt roads. We tried everything. Sitting on the tailgate and letting him follow- no luck. Riding on the tailgate with him-no luck. Tying him to the back seat so he couldn’t climb the metal divider (which he was grabbing with his teeth and actually broke it) Nothing worked. We even covered everything with the windshield shade so he could’t see up front and drove backwards for several miles- no luck! I rode squished up in the back with no place to put my legs and could not control him even with the pinch collar and tied short to the backseat by his harness. I’m so bruised. He throws himself around and yelps and cries, tail between his legs , face tight and panting hard, forcing his head over until he gets stuck and chokes himself It’s so scary to watch ..and so heartbreaking. I finally had to resort to the e collar. I hated using it on him and wasn’t sure if it would even faze him as he was so worked up, he wasn’t thinking I also wasn’t sure that with the state of mind he was in, he wouldn’t get aggressive and turn on me but after warning then hitting the hot button 2 times, he quit, and laid down with his head on my lap the last half until he could smell we were home, then he put his head out the window which was fine. What a nightmare. I have to make one last trip with him, to the Burns vet for medication to help him through it in case he’s ever injured and has to go in on a medical emergency. He needs to be looked at for his glands and eyelids as he might have a little entropion starting on the bottom lids. Please pray for us to get him through this.
He is definitely washed from public access as I can’t put him through this and I don’t want to be drugging him, when I can utilize Fen and a walker. Tranquilizers or whatever, can’t be all that good for him

Poor Boone. If only we could explain to them & make them understand.
I know what a frustration it was when my sweet Birdie would lose her mind when alone in the house & start destroying the place trying to find me. I'd have given anything if I could have made her understand that I WAS going to come back and that she was SAFE.
