Unfortunately I can't move them. Their dry lot is connected to the only building they have for shelter, and I can't move the building. I talked to my vet today, she feels that my goats are old enough there should be little risk of them contracting it. I was planning on buying a buck kid in the...
I kept a dairy cow here for about a month while her owner was having surgery. While she was here, she began having severe diarrhea that refused to clear up. Her owner was able to pick her up and took her to his vet for testing. The cow (Julie) tested positive for Johnes disease. I don't know...
Probably just the hormones. My doe gets extra snuggly when she is getting close to that time, I can tell when she is within a couple of days of going into labor because she just about wants to sit in my lap. :P She probably is sensitive about being touched because everything is more sensitive...
My chickens free range and go in and out of the goat pen all day long. I have never had one of my goats even be at all interested in the chickens. Three of my hens were even laying in their shed for a few weeks, the goats never seemed to care about that either. I have only ever had one killed by...
I agree with one of the PPs, you should not sell or give him away unless you tell the buyer exactly WHY you are selling him. And once that is disclosed, the only buyers you will get are meat buyers, which IMO is where he probably ought to go. I NEVER leave horns on my goats, even a sweet gentle...
I unfortunately have to sell one of my little herd of goats. I was planning on keeping this little girl for myself, but hay and $$ are super tight so someone has to go. She is super cute, and her mama is a great milker, easily gives a gallon a day and quiet on the stand. Located in central...
I'm not sure how far you are from me, but I am in central Illinois and have a year old Nubian/Nigerian doe that I need to sell. She is not bred, but she is cute/friendly and her mama is a great milker.
Actually, the pedigrees take almost no effort. You simply buy a book of blanks, or even design your own on the computer, and then fill them out with the information about the rabbit. I always wrote mine out by hand, and I used the ARBA blanks because I liked the way they look, all official-like...
They do still eat less than a full sized cow though. Plus the space issues, plus they are easier to handle, especially for a small person. And when you don't need the huge amount of milk that a full size cow gives, these give plenty for a family without you winding up practically swimming in it...
Thanks for the information, guys. Although I didn't get to make my butter last night. My seven year old son was getting his bedtime drink and picked up the wrong jar, and drank ALL my cream! So next time I will try again, LOL.
Well, I think I am getting all the buttermilk out of it. I kind of smoosh it around and rinse it several times until I am not seeing any more come out of it. Do you guys have a good method for rinsing it out? I am new at this, so any tips are appreciated. :P
I really like the miniature cattle too, I have a good sized mini Jersey farm only ten minutes away from me. But when I contacted them to ask about a heifer, *gasp!* They want $2500 for an unproven heifer! Although an option that I didn't think about at the time was that sometimes you can get a...
I am hoping someone on here will be able to solve this slightly silly conundrum for me. I have been getting whole raw Jersey milk from a friend, and of course I am trying to make butter with it as well. Well, making the butter is not a problem. But the problem I am having is, when I keep it in...
Does anyone here sell milk from their goats? I have a lady that is very interested in getting some goat milk from me, but I have no idea what to charge for it. Just BTW, so far as I have been able to research, farm sales are supposed to be legal here in Illinois. I thought about doing goat...
