I woud guess you get snow in the winter soo you will have to feed hay in the winter, I woudn't depend on your hayfield in the winter to feed them. I love my minis even for my DGC. My DGS # 3 jsut turned 4 and he has been out in the goat pen since he coud walk. "I just love my goaties...

    new goats

yeah--I like my spots also and my minis--but I am thinking that these genetics may add some good things to my minis, that is a mini Nubian doe in the background of the pic with the mini buck. I have 2 that are that color. :)

thought I posted, but it didn't come through. I had the chance to get these goats--I might get to keep the buck, long story, but I am keeping his daughters. His bloodlines include Saada, Goldthwaite, Trillium Trails, Prairie Fire, Promised* Landt. His name is Ojibawa Savvy. they are kinda...

    Do bucks ALWAYS stink?

no--lemon or vingar doesn't work with our bucks--although our goats milk soap does do a pretty good job-- we tell people that if someone tells you that you smell like a billy goat ( my dad used to say that so and so smelled like an old billy goat, we had no idea what he meant, now we do)--you...

    Do bucks ALWAYS stink?

how bad so some bucks smell? LOL We brought a buck in for breeding years ago and my DIL didn't believe that a buck could smell--well we knew they smell--ours only smell when the girls are in heat. my DIL got a whiff and started to puke, she was pregnant, but hadn't had any issues at all...

    Anyone In Georgia

I think you can sell soap from any state as long as you dont' make any claims on what it can or will do-then you can get into trouble. we have people that say that it helps them. We have several people that come to our tables in the fall craft fair to buy 12 to 15 bars of soap and they tell...

What to do with a goat with a broken leg?

yes I was really angry--I had a building these people wanted to "rent" to put their chickens in for a couple of months--so they stopped by and we weren't home, so their children went into my goat pen, cause the babies were sooo cute --yeah sooo cute until one of them stumbled on one of the...

What to do with a goat with a broken leg?

One of my goats and then one of my babies got stepped on by some people that stopped to see them while we weren't here:(, but one of my brothers was an EMT and my sister is an RN and at the time worked in ER. They set both legs (different times) and neither goat had limps after they healed...

    Goats

It really doesn't take much time--if you have everything organized--but I be really careful about the chickens and the goats together-you do NOT want your goats into any chicken feed or you WILL run into lots of trouble, I also don't like keeping them together because of diseases. JMHO--maybe...

How long have you owned goats?

We were jsut discussing life without goats--I don't think it will ever happen --goats are our staff of life--our life-next to my grandchildren;). My daughters will have goats and DGS #3 (will be 4 in Oct) loves his goaties, does chores and starting milking at age 2 1/2--no, he isn't able to...

Goat Milk is Good for your skin, right?

--when I first got goats, they had never been milked. One settled in fine, but the second one was a pain in my behind. I didn't have a milk stand yet, but the goal was jsut to get them milking. She would do ok as long as she was held, my daughters knew to hold her. we had come a long...

Goat Milk is Good for your skin, right?

You can't make soap without lye--as it was explained, the lye and oils/butters saponify--it is a chemical reaction, so you no longer have lye, but saponified oils. Coconut oil is one of the oils you can use in soap, but it doesn't replace lye. If you add tooo much though coconut oil , it...

    Sick goat - need advice

umm I think it is the LA 200 that burns when injected--someone jump in here. I won't have it around, sometimes pain can through a goat into shock, they shut down and die. I agree with trestlecreek :)

    Impulse buy Angoras

Be careful about what you wash the mohair in, it will absorb the color, even an off white or a soft blue. It has to be a completely color free--meaning clear, not even a bit yellow in it cause mohair literally wicks color--not a bad thing, but sometimes very annoying.

    Fence Type For Goats

tried the electric fence, as long as Mocha could get her nose under the bottom wire, she would lay on her belly, close her eyes and crawl under it. they had grass on the other side, hay and water inside their area, but it must be a challenge for her.. then the others watched her...

    Nubians...Climately challenged?

I tried that with my water bucket, but it always froze solid, had to go with a heated bucket. but now with the little extra building inside of the building, it might work without the heated water bucket. Just find a something that works for you --they do need water in the winter, eating snow...

    question about fences

for my goats, no that wouldn't even begin to hold them in--doesn't matter --they have fresh water and free fed hay, if they want to stay in , they do, but there are a couple of does that absolutely would not stay in--right now we have 52'' sheep/goat fence with 2 electric wires above that. It...

Doe rolling over on purpose and other weird tricks...

I bought angora goats years ago and had a couple of does walk on knees and the vet told me they could be selemium deficiency I checked the area that I bought the goats from and the area was lower in SE, after dosing them with something that the vet gave me-now I think it must have been BOSE, it...

    Nubians...Climately challenged?

Just make sure they have a nice dry tight shelter so the snow and wind doesn't blow in with good bedding and good nutrition. sometimes we do have to make an area inside of the shelter for them as well. When we went out to feed and check on them, the extra shelter inside was warm because of...
