My two little doelings are about 12 weeks old now. They seem to be growing and doing well. I feed them a little sweet feed in the mornings and fill their manger with hay. They are getting coastal. They don't seem to love the hay but I do see them eating it. When I take them out of their pen and...
Okay, you guys. My doelings have been outside full-time for over a week. It's supposed to be in the mid-20's tonight. Is that okay for them? They have an igloo dog house filled with hay and covered with a blanket. The doghouse door faces a solid metal fence to cut down on drafts. (There is about...
Thanks, you guys. They are unrelated but from the same herd. They are about 8 weeks old now. They were born around Oct 6th.
Clara Belle and Clementine are sweet names!
I concur- chickens and rabbits would be great.

The author no longer updates it but she kept chickens and goats in San Francisco.
We have had our little Nigerian doelings for 2 weeks now. They are doing really well although one of them, Clementine, was sick with coccidia and strongyles last week. She is doing much better now. (We treated both doelings for both parasites.) I weighed both doelings on Nov 24th and they were...
 Heehee. I figured bigger was probably better. I started with three hens in a tiny city backyard and now I live outside town with 18 chickens (I had 23 a few months ago). I hope I am not similarly crazed by goats.
I can't believe they can go into heat at 8 weeks of age!! (I mean, I do believe it but it's so early.) It was just a small amount- maybe a couple of drops. She hasn't shown any other signs (like the bleating or flagging tail).
Thanks! I'll keep an eye on her but I'm feeling relieved.
We are in the process of fencing a "run" for our two Nigerian doelings. The area where they will be living was formerly a dog run but we have torn down half of the fence (the floppy, terrible half) and are replacing it with no-climb horse fence (4' height). I'm trying to decide how large to make...
Thank you for such an informative post, dejavoodoo! You have some beautiful dogs there. Best of luck and thanks for sharing your mistakes and successes!
Hi, all! One of my 8-week doelings was diagnosed with coccidia and stongyles last week. We treated her immediately and she is acting like she feels much better. She is still having clumpy poops, though. Today I checked her tail area and she has a slightly yellowish/whitish discharge coming from...
The only way I was able to have those goats indoors the last week is because their poop wasn't gross. Until it was. :p Truly, it is the least gross poop I have encountered and I've seen lots of poop. (I have three children after all.)
My goaties are outdoors in their doghouse tonight. I've...
OneFineAcre- thank you! That was really informative and makes perfect sense to me. They did not tell me anything about the parasite load. Next time (in two weeks) I will definitely ask. I hope they will give me that info- my experience with doctors/vets/experts is that sometimes they are not too...
Elevan- thank you for that info. I'll definitely check out your articles. I moved the goats outdoors- they have a small, secure run and a doghouse full of hay. We are working on a bigger (20x50') run but that requires that we work on fencing.
I have a feeling that in our mild climate (Austin...
I called the vet and they gave us Panacure paste and Marquis paste. The Marquis is the toltrazuril you mentioned so I think that is good. The other was for the strongyle worms. They asked me to bring in another fecal sample in 10-14 days to recheck. My usual vet (dog/cat) doesn't treat goats so...
Thanks. I needed to hear that. It's a steeper learning curve than chickens and ducks, that's for sure! They gave me syringes of two meds, one labelled "M" and one "P". I can't remember their full names!
Do y'all think I can continue feeding grains, then? Should I continue with the...
Update: She had coccidia and stongyles!! They gave me two dewormers (for both goats) and I already treated them. Thank you guys so much for the timely advice today. Southernbychoice, a special thank you for your first response in which you gave me such a STRONG recommendation to get the fecal...
