We did work the sheep today and pulled the lambs off the ewes. I guess the ewes were more than ready since none of them are out there bawling for their lambs.
We had every intention of working the ewes and pulling their lambs this morning but my usually obedient follow me anywhere sheep said no. I had to call them across three paddocks and they came running like normal but when they got to a paddock that I had mowed about three weeks ago, they all...
We are going to move the ram lambs in the morning and move the whole flock in to separate ewe lambs and sort for the market. We have several ewes that have been really good but they just don't have the size that we like so they are going to the sale.
The summer heat is definitely here. I mowed around all of the fences both perimeter and interior. Then sprayed herbicide around all of the interior netting. I'm always paranoid if the grass gets too high that the sheep won't be able to see the netting soon enough if they get spooked so I keep...
We got the check yesterday for the lamb sale and it wasn't great but not bad either. All of these lambs were 45-49 pounds and half were graded as good and the other half choice. The good went for $1.62 a pound and the choice went for $1.92 a pound.
Today was pretty much a waste as I had doctor's appointment at 1030 this morning with a cardiologist. I was pleased as his exam didn't indicate any issues but to be sure he set me up for another scan that I couldn't even pronounce to make sure there is no artery blockage. :) I had to get...
This sale barn doesn't post total animal numbers until the end of the day but the number is going to be high I'm assuming. It took us an hour and a half to get to the unloading area and the line was out on the highway when we left out of there. We did stop at Cracker Barrel and had lunch.
Rather than type that all out again, I just quoted it since we are on our way to the sale this morning. :) It only took us about 15 minutes to sort the 10 lambs going to the sale and get them on the trailer.
We separated and loaded the 10 ram lambs to take to the sale this morning only to find we were on the wrong Monday so they are still here. This was a failure on our part to talk about what we knew so we both take the hit here. A friend of ours was taking lambs to the market two weeks ago and...
We have been watching a show from 2023 that was shown on Dick Van Dyke's 98th birthday and it got us to wondering if he could even have been a success in this current time.
We are going to bring in the ram lambs to sort them out and make a run to the sale tomorrow morning. Those that are going...
A friend of ours recently got a Polaris like we have and she now has a John Deere Gator utility vehicle that she wants to sell. Teresa had spent a bit of time replacing decals and a few other things for her and Teresa asked her what she wanted for it. She named a decent price so Teresa now has...
I'm liking the zero turn mower but the one thing I didn't like about it was that Cub Cadet figured out a way to make another $70 off of their mower sales by not putting in the hour/service meter. They did have all of the input going to the location where the meter would be installed but no...
We brought the ram lambs in to check out, and worm a few of them so we can make a market run on Monday. We have five that look really nice and we will keep them around to sell. Two will be commercial and three will be registered but the remaining 13 will be going to the sale.
I'm open to suggestions about a situation that I created. Oshi will always have the cautions about a ram is a ram but he has gotten totally tame and enjoys his scratches. After Oshi and Pete eat, Oshi will come up to get his ears scratched and just stand there. The problem is that he will do...
