Really depends on why you want them. For milk, go with the Nigerian Dwarf. I have ND's, some blue eyed, some not and they are really nice goats. I do have one Pygmy wether, and he's pretty cute too. Best of all, some of each.
Three of my does had trips this year, first time for that. Two of them rejected the third born. I think it was a case of them being so busy with the first two that the third one just didn't get noticed. I actually missed the birth of the last to kid, when I went out, she had two cleaned off...
My ND doe freshened almost two months ago and I'm pretty sure the buck got her again and she is bred. I don't really want her to be pregnant, she is still nursing the three kids she had and I want to milk her for awhile. If I give her a shot to stop the pregnancy, what will that do to her milk...
Ok, guess I just never saw the first stuff before, it's turned yellow now. He's doing really well, taking his bottle just fine, and very active. We're on a sleep over tonight, at my mom's. He is not as big as her toy poodle! The pic is of them all the first day, he is the one beside the doe.
My final doe freshened two nights ago with triplet boys!! I had come in to pee and get warm after sitting in the barn for almost two hours, as she was still contracting, but not laying down to push, fell asleep, woke up about an hour later, hurried out and she had delivered. Two were up and...
CL vaccination (previous to her joining my herd) of one of my does has resulted in a "positive" result in subsequent testing prior to sale, thus frightening off the prospective buyer.
I don't do kidding threads as I never know for sure when we are due, but I sure do like posting when they finally arrive! Triplets born about an hour ago, two boys and one girl, and just what I had taken "bookings" for!! First one came out ass backwards, and is quite small (the doe), then...
I will see what the whole herd testing tells us, then go from there. With no abcesses I can't do the autogenous vaccine but that's a good thing, I think. I sure appreciate your input, nice to hear a first hand experience.
Last year two of my does got out and ate azalea from the garden. They were so sick I thought they were going to die. Have you ever seen a goat vomit? It is not nice. Took a few weeks for them to get back to normal. Azalea is gone now. So, they don't always know what is not good for them...
The autogeneous vaccine is then used as a treatment, not a preventative or a cure. Supposedly then builds antibodies to the particular strain of the virus.
This is such a great site. I am not feeling so bad as I was. I've just found out from the farm where I got her that this doe was indeed vaccinated for Cl, also, she is pregnant! So, the titer of 32 isn't horrific in this situation I think. I am having the rest of the herd tested. It costs $9...
I did test for Johnes and CAE as well, Johnes is negative, still waiting for CAE results. I have 8 does, three bucks, one wether and just now two kids. Three of the does, including the CL positive are bred. I just took my senior buck to a friends place to stay for a while, to give my young...
Hi again Southern, just had a call from the vet and the titer is 32. Is that a number that will remain the same, or is it something that will worsen? I really have no idea what to do. First thing is to get everyone else tested I guess. Thanks for your help.
I use something similar to this, as in the cup attaches by vacuum to the teat and I hand pump into a glass jar and I find it works well. It's a lot easier especially with a jumpy doe and they seem to not mind it once I get the cup attached. That can be a bit tricky as none of my does stand as...
Isn't till the end of the month. Not for my goat, so will share pics if they send them. Have any of you seen/heard of Steve Westcott, the guy who is walking from Seattle to New York, hence the name of his mission N2S, Needle to Square. He is trying to raise funds/awareness for an orphanage...
Wow, that is amazing. Those sharpened horns are something else. How does the wound heal? I mean, what grows over, just skin? Or bone? Will she have the spots on her head that are soft for ever now? Maybe you'll have to get her a little helmet to protect them. Also, and this is completely...
