It's in Oregon this year, Nebraska next.
There is talk that it could come back to Ohio or even KY the years following. I am hoping to be ready then :D
Heck, I BETTER be ready then! Even if I have to sleep in the barn the entire week!
It was funny because the day prior an exhibitor was...
Thanks all for the kind words. It was really special to have my first BIS win :)
I knew Willow was a special one the moment she was born. Out of that entire group of kids she was an instant favorite!
But, I was really blown away by one of the judge's comments. She was talking to the family...
Agree
Was the plan to breed him not disclosed? Was the goat being advertised as a wether or buck?
Many breeders like myself wether bucks that we feel are not breeding quality.
I’m still reading you post so may have missed something- but did you check the dam’s udder and teats? Did you squirt several streams of colostrum into your hand/bucket/something and check it?
Generally when I hear of this type of issue, it’s because the dam’s colostrum is to thick for the kid...
Wow! We've been so busy but I had to pop in with an update. We had our first show of the season at the Legendary show.
This show is a little earlier than I like but with us kidding so late I think the goats would look their best in a few weeks. We didn't have real high expectations but were...
Do you know what a general exam fee would be? Maybe just call your vet and see?
I would not be throwing anything at the kid until it has been evaluated.
You need to have a vet check him asap.
My first thoughts are a severe lice infestation or heart defect.
A three week old kid shouldn't have internal parasites at this age. Having the fecal checked is good for the possibility of coccidia, but I really don't think that's your issue. We've never...
How did you go about weaning sheep?
Absolutely do NOT wean a 4.5 week old kid! Especially a Nubian! They should be on milk for 12 weeks minimum, 16 weeks is ideal.
They are a different breed, some Nigerians are okay to be weaned at 8 weeks, but I'd never wean a large breed goat that early...
Who’s Godiva out of? Is that the Jr you were referring to a little while back- the one you were excited about?
Sounds like Cookie is doing really well this year! Didn’t she have multiples this year?
Congratulations! Nice to get those dry legs outta the way :)
I know who you’re referring too, super nice lady! We’ve shown against her several times, she’s done a good job building her herd!
We've always done it this way, as do all the folks that we know (well, the ones that we talk to often/have a relationship with).
I've never had anyone balk at the price, if they do they can walk ;) Works great for us. They pic the goat up on butcher day (or the day before) and we get $2-$2.50/lb...
