Rabbits are doing ok, haven't had the misters on recently since it's been lower in temperature. Chickens are doing well too.
Hubby has started the roof project, which means the shingles are off one half of the roof now (east side/road side). You can look up through some of the access holes...
Finally got out to the garden to check on things more in depth since the baby came. There were about 10 plants I had been babying or trying to get recovered that were now definitely dead. I dumped the dirt into one of the raised beds I've been trying to fill, so the area looks a bit better now...
Munchkin 2 is now 3 weeks old (yesterday). He was over his birth weight at two weeks old and I weighed him at 6 pounds 5 ounces two days ago, so he's putting on weight. He's finally starting to feel sturdy when we hold him but he's still in newborn sizes.
He likes holding in his burps and...
Just read through a ton of pages to get caught up. Baby has been sleeping about 3 hours a stretch, so I have been a bit sleep deprived. He's back over his birth weight and actually in the 6 pound range now.
I bought Jerusalem artichokes this last year and haven't been able to try them. The deer...
I'm just excited it's growing! Dunno if any of the other pumpkin plants will produce, or if the deer will attack again, but I'm hoping they will keep growing. I'm finally feeling almost back to pre-baby, and going to try to fix the gates again to keep the deer out.
There's several of the...
He's doing ok, but a little jealous. He's tried to hit the baby a few times. Today I finally got caught up a bit on sleep. The baby is eating every three hours or so, which is exhausting. We had trouble latching, so we are pumping and bottle feeding.
Baby is here!! Another quick -ish labor. At least this time I knew what it was supposed to feel like and we got to the hospital before my water broke. Got there around 4:30 am, munchkin 2 was born at 5:53 am. 5 pounds 11 ounces and 19" long. Little guy for being 39 weeks 1 day. We are doing good.
I still need to get hubby to install the t posts so I can trellis the last row of black beans. They are trying to grow up and grab something, and falling over into the other row without anything to grab onto.
I didn't see bean pods on the pinto beans but I only looked at a few of the plants...
T post puller with chain hooked up to the bucket on the tractor pulls the t posts right out. Our dirt may be softer though, dunno if it works as easily if the ground is like cement. We have the jack type somewhere, for safe keeping, but the little metal piece which works with the chain attached...
23 months. We are supposed to be weaning him off the bottle but it makes life easier and so far hasn't been causing issues. We have started training him a little to potty train, but we are worried he will regress a bit when the baby comes so we haven't been pushing it too much.
He babbles a...
I think I'll probably try to get bantam Polish for munchkin 1 to show, the last one I had was easy to handle and very sweet, probably because she couldn't see anything past her updo to get freaked out about. I could pick her up easily and she was so chill.
I had a bantam seabright rooster for...
One of the ladies at church has milk goats! I asked her if I could pick her brain within the next few years to do milk goats. And another does show chickens I think. Apparently the lady who has the goats actually accidentally entered the fair for eggs and didn't realize it, had to run home and...
Looks like he can start showing small animals at 5 (in 2026) in 4H but not big animals until 9. FFA starts at 8. I guess we could get a Nigerian dwarf goat or two to go along with the full size so he could start with those and then move on to the bigger ones after a few years.
Hmm, I should look up when munchkin 1 can start showing goats. If I'm going to have milk goats they might as well have multiple uses. I doubt we will be ready for goats for a few years though, which will probably work out to a year or so before he can showing. I definitely want a proper barn and...
I want to learn about making cheese. But if I get good at making cheese, I'll need a lot of milk, so it would be logical to get milking sheep or goats. Just need to spin it so hubby will agree. I think two boys will go through a lot of milk, so it would be cheaper to have our own goat or two...
