If the weather cooperates I will be picking up a mini Nubian (FF in milk) tomorrow. This is sudden. The owner is moving. I don't have a pen prepared to quarantine her. I do, however, have the extra large insulated igloo type dog house that we got for Finn (who sleeps in the house...I still...
I was only a half hour away from getting to meet Devonviolet this weekend. DRAT!!! Left my house to meet her and it had already started to sleet, so I made the tough choice to turn around and go back home. Probably a good idea since my son left for work about an hour later and ended up in a...
Thanks. I'll try that. If Tripod is messing with Hazel's ears it would probably be when they are bedded down. I want to get blood work done on all 4 just so I know what is or isn't there. Tonight it's warm and the girls are chasing each other all around their pen and jumping around on their...
Have a few minutes and thought I'd catch up. I hate winter! It keeps me away from my goats. We're tracking Hazel (aka Anna as per granddaughters) closely to make sure all is well and that she starts gaining weight. Didn't realize she was half the size she should be. Another newbie goat owner...
@bonbean01 , I must caught the thread also. (Waiting for something to download at work does have it's advantages!) @SheepGirl , she is just adorable. The pic with the ears makes me just want to give her a squeeze...:hugs
Glad she is doing better! Keep those pictures coming!
Started Hazel (and pen mate Tripod) on first round of worm med today. Am going to follow advice of the person we got her from ....who is successfully raising others of her bloodline....and add alfalfa pellets and some other feed for young growing goats (I've really got to look up what she said...
Greta is really pretty! Really looking forward to meeting some Toggs in person. Don't know if we'll go that route but its still fun to get to know more goat people.
Awwwww....melting into a big puddle of puppy heaven! Just now getting around to seeing the pics. I can smell the puppy breath from here and can imagine just sitting and letting them crawl all over. I LOVE PUPPY PARTIES! Thanks again for sharing them with us.
Little donkey ears!
I'm going to spend some time with these goats. Maybe it's a difference in what they are fed. Maybe its an acquired taste. Will see. Certainly not putting my dream of mini Nubians off. Just shopping. Maybe I will end up with one of each kind of goat. LOL!
Messaged with the person we bought her from and talked to our vet. Fecal didnt indicate worm problem but original owner said feces may not contain eggs due to cold temps (???) Vet recommends two rounds of worming which is what former owner said plus alfalfa pellets and some additional feed for...
The person I'm talking to about them says her parents raise them as dairy goats. They are only about 3 hours away. When the weather warms up we may take a drive out there and taste for ourselves. At least I'm finding goat people in our area!
What can anyone tell me about Toggenburgs? Other than the standard Google search info, that is. Taste of milk? Can they be bred to ND's as minis to increase fat content? Sounds like they aren't the most mellow goat, but is that nature or nuture?
(Yeah, I just heard of this breed. They...
We've got her papers. We saw her mother and grandmother and a sibling. (She was one of quads.) I don't personally know the breeder but she is fairly local and it sounded like she only raises Nubians.
Ignorance strikes again. I never thought to ask how much weight our little Nubian should be gaining. Was messing around on FB the other day and ended up joining a bunch of goat sites (because I love having goat pics and stuff coming through my FB feed) and, from a random comment I made...
My mini Nubian starter kit may have a glitch. The does that were with my ND buck did not get pregnant. I talked to my vet and he says doing the test on the buck will cost $85. I don't want to wait to see if he is capable or not because my does won't be ready to breed until fall. If nothing...
