    Kinda Scared

Height doesn't mean she's ready to accept a rider. Her joints have to be done growing. I'm used to Arabs, and Arab people often wait until the horses are closer to 4 years old before riding. A friend of mine and I went to go look at some Andalusians and the trainer there said even though the...

    Suspensory injury

I know no one here insulted me, I was just expecting someone to say, "Well if you can't afford the vet bills, then you shouldn't have a horse." Well, normally I can, just not on a day that the brakes and wheel bearings go out after coming back from a trip where I spent $200 in gas. :barnie...

    Kinda Scared

If you are frightened, then please don't go off half-cocked to ride a horse you're afraid of. Lessons would be best, even if you have to take them from a western trainer. BTW, most horses don't buck at a trot. With the way that the legs are moving, it's hard for them to get both front legs out...

    Horses to slaughter

Well, they ARE starting to enforce it. 4 GLDRA riders got arrested and had to post bail to get to the Pine Marten Ride. :barnie They didn't stop in St. Ignace. A few other rigs managed to make it there w/o getting caught. I stopped there voluntarily.

    Suspensory injury

Like I said, we just need to complete 3 25 mile rides next year, not even place in them and then I'll be happy. yes, it is the same leg. Again, it was the same ride vet as the last time it was injured. Several horses came up slightly lame on this ride (which is why I managed to be 2nd with a...

    Suggest a Fly Sheet?

I hose Izzie down and let her roll in dirt. It's what mustangs do :) The mud creates a barrier that helps protect the horse from fly bites. Not 100% effective, but short of a screened gazebo/stall nothing is.

    Suspensory injury

Rght now I can't afford an ultrasound (brakes and wheel bearings just went out on the truck and I had to spend over $300 on that today) and please don't give me the "if you don't have the money for an ultrasound you don't have money for a horse" nonsense. S--- happens and it happened to me a lot...

    Milking angus....

No reason you can't. You just won't get 3 gal. of milk a day. My family could live quite nicely with 3 pt. a day, maybe even a bit leftover for a batch of cheese

    Suspensory injury

I wasthinking about skipping it anyway. For one thing, the ride was moved to South Branch. I've already been up there about 8 times this year (my usual conditioning grounds, plus 2 days of Shore to Shore). For another, the footing there is deep sand. Another is that with the big group Izzie is...

    Suspensory injury

We just returned from the Pine Marten Run in MI's UP. Izzie ended up 2nd in the LW division, but she finished with a mild suspensory injury. There were a lot of half-buried and hidden-by-leaves-roots so she did stumble several times during the course. Vet said she was "slightly off" Grade 1...

Everyone getting ready for winter? :hide We still need to get pellets for the pellet stove, but other than that we're set. We still have 1 ton leftover from last year, so we're not in a rush. I noticed that the price went down mid-winter just because stores were trying to get rid of them...
