    Goats&moregoats: KickinUpDust Farm Journal

@Bruce , I have never even heard of or seen basket skimmer socks? but then again this is only my second year of dealing with a pool. With last year being a total disaster as I wasn't here most of the summer.

    Whether Stabbed Nanny

They will look funny, but I put pieces of pool noodles over one of my nanny's while she was penned with other nursing mom's. I just cut the noodle down so it just came over the end of her horns. Use duck type to secure. I only had to do this temporarily until the babies figured out how fast to...

    Goats&moregoats: KickinUpDust Farm Journal

So @Bruce, I so agree on current POA, but I personally can not do anything and she should be referred to POS for doing it to begin with. So you all can cal me crazy if you want ( I am in so may ways:D =D) but I am trading even up my Nupine/Alpine mix goats for Dwarf Nigerians..well almost even...

    Goats&moregoats: KickinUpDust Farm Journal

@CntryBoy777 , I am just living one day at a time. Taking care of what I can and praying others are doing what they need to do. @Latestarter , right now I pen the kids at night with their feed & hay. If I wait until they are done then I have four kids trying to follow me out of the gate and...

fawn missing, mama deer forms the posse

Awesome pictures & story. Thank you very much for sharing GB. I love to see the wild life that surrounds us. Right now we have a high rabbit load, Turkey are coming & going (I usually get to see them early morning only) and occasionally deer in the backyard, but usually to the left of the...

    Goats&moregoats: KickinUpDust Farm Journal

The mess with the house is in the process of trying to be taken care of. If it is, then the POA will be changed again. Nobody wants to pursue anything legal with the current POA as she is family. I am just praying that my brother & his wife can get the loan they are applying for to cover the...

    Goats&moregoats: KickinUpDust Farm Journal

So yesterday I was able to finally finish up mowing the "hay field", patch of grass directly in front of the pasture. It's a patch that stays wet until about this time of year. So it has to wait. Parts of it were still damp, but got it done. In the Spring it's like swamp land, so I believe there...

What to do with dead sheep

Sorry for your loss Sheepshape. I had one year that was terrible..a couple years ago. A few kids died day after they were born, Dwarf Nigerians..those were small enough to burn. Had one larger kid I had to bury. However, I wrapped it up in some old chicken wire, some old goat fencing, a piece of...

    Goats&moregoats: KickinUpDust Farm Journal

@Latestarter , now there is a thought!:duc Ok, so I apologies for the rant yesterday. Sometimes it gets so over whelming. The weather keeping me indoors where I don't like to be didn't help. Especially since I am not ready to dwell in my own thoughts. Today is much better. I got up earlier, the...

    Goats&moregoats: KickinUpDust Farm Journal

So this morning I am beyond frustrated but not with my animals. Just concern for my animals and doing what is best for them. Getting over whelmed with the everyday/weekly workload and the fact that even with 3 other people in the house (not counting Doreen) I do 95% of what needs to be done. I...

    Goats&moregoats: KickinUpDust Farm Journal

@Southern by choice , I have two adult does just over 2 yrs. They kidded at a year old(not mine then). I have one wether @ 12 weeks, 1 buckling @ 13 weeks and 2 doelings @ 12 weeks. The two boys & 1 doeling look awesome. Nutmeg (doeling) looks a little thin to me, but not terrible either. One...

@Southern by choice ,yes it is medicated feed for the propose of coccidia prevention, but was also used to help with growth as they were weaned from the bottle I increased their pellets. I should be able to decrease it a bit. Can I ask if you all have the larger dairy breeds, how much do you...

    Mystang's Homesteading Circus

At night I don't like to be left to my own thoughts for very long, so I look on here for threads to read....and tonight I found yours. What a glorious refreshing read. Not many men can stay home, farm, & take care of eight kids. Kudo's to you on that one. What I know about sheep could be put on...

    Rescued Horse

Wow! I can't imagine just turning an animal loose, but I am not in that person's shoes either. I hope the hell I never am. Glad you are able to take him in and care for him. Hoping all works out well for you and him. He looks a bit thin but still absolutely stunning.

    Goats&moregoats: KickinUpDust Farm Journal

Kids spent the entire day in the main pasture with the older does. So evening feeding time just got done. Went so much better than I had pictured. I got the chicks & ducks done first, then filled the water buckets. All the goats followed me around for that. Then I put the kids in the buck pen...

    Latestarter's ramblings/musings/gripes and grumbles.

Glad Mel is improving. Skeeters were bad here, but they have declined. Deer flies are out in the pasture and absolutely drive me crazy when I am out there. Ticks(so far) are not as bad this years as they were the last two years. Those darn tiny flies are wicked in the pasture. Poor goats.
