Vet came out today. He thinks its bottle jaw and the worming should knit it in the butt. Said it will take a bit of time for the swelling to go down. Thank you everyone! I don't have many sheep people in my area so its nice to have a place to get some feed back from:)
The ewe is going to be 3 in December. I use purina loose sheep mineral, and from what I could get off the tag it does has potassium iodide in it. Did go get so kelp the other day to mix in with the mineral.
I finally got a good picture of her to show what the neck looks like.
I have a ewe that seems to have some swelling right where the neck meets the jaw. It also just seems to be a bit more on one side than than the other. I am trying to figure out if it is bottle jaw or a neck goiter?
So far I have rounded up the flock and wormed everyone with some ivermectin,(...
I am so sorry @newbiekat , any health problems with animals can be a stresser but losing babies is the worst. I am sending prayers your way. Just remember somethings are out of your control and you are doing the best you can and thats what matters. And don't blame yourself, accidents happen.
I...
I grew up on a small farm with 4 brothers. My mother was a stay at home mom and my father went and worked at my grandfathers insurance business and after work he did all the farm chores. Even though I grew up on a farm I would not say I had to do a lot of "farm work". I do remember having to...
I am very curious to know how other sheep owners use ear tags in their flocks. What I mean is, do you use 2 tags or no tags or does anyone order tags with scrapie id on one side and id number on the other?
I am glad you guys survived. I especially like the picture of the snow under the door. I have to agree with Goat Whisperer, those are some brave goats.
@SandDherds -Shoot! I don't want to wait that long! Oh well, I am sure she doesn't want to wait that long either ;).
@samantha draws -Same here, I won't have lambs on the ground to next spring. I am having to live through others till then.
@kccjer Thank you for the info. I worry about predators but we live close to a residential area and a highway so I would worry a LGD would get in trouble. Llamas might be a good alternative but I don't think I would want them to be as protective as your friend's llama lol.
How long did it take...
Welcome from central Nebraska! You have quite the herd there. I have to ask, do you use your llamas as guard llamas? I am very interested to find someone who does and ask how well it works.
Hope the weather does not hit you guys too hard the next couple days. We are praying it will shift.
I wish you the best and that the lambing process goes okay. I am going to make a guess and say she has 4 babies packed in there.
Can't wait to see pictures!
Well I know I was asked to share some pictures of my girls. I braved the swampy conditions to get a few pictures. We are currently deicing only to get more cold weather this coming weekend. Brought my aussie with me as an assistant. He was no real help. The whole time he kept nuzzling under my...
Thank you for the greetings. :)
It has been really fun getting to know the sheep. They come up for carrots or treats. When I first got them they would run from me like I planned on killing them. Only one is still very unsure of me, I have named her Shy Girl. The name is very fitting.
I will...
Hi everybody!
Just introducing myself on here. I have been reading through many threads the last couple weeks and finally decided to join in.
So a little about myself I guess. I live on a small farm in Nebraska. Up until a month ago we only had horses. In December I made my way down to Kansas...
