Somewhere in BYH I posted a story about the teeniest pygmy goat ever. She was an indoor bottle baby who we dubbed "Sparkie's Pet" because she and the Schipperke were great pals. Alas, she out grew her playpen and it was time for her to be a goat. It was summer and high kidding season, so we...
I second the use of Calf Manna. I feed it before breeding, too. Don't know if it upped the number of babies, but ended up with 13 kits in one litter! Mom and babies did fine.
Thought all y'all would enjoy this being as it's kidding season and all:
On our ranch a couple of years back I was doing midwifery for a bunch o' Pygmy goats when Crazy Mama had a major freakout and started running around the stall delivering her kids (yes, goats can deliver standing up and...
Whenever the placenta is passed it's a good idea to lay it out to make sure it is complete. It will look like an oddly shaped bag with a hole (tear) in one side where the babies came out. If you have a complete placenta, you needn't worry much.
When I was raising pygmy goats I very seldom had late night kiddings. Someone had told me an old wives' tale, I took it to heart and began feeding grain to my goats at the evening feeding. The theory is with something yummy (like grain or 3-in-1) they'll be so attuned and busy to chewing cud...
Ooooh.... Sorry for all that trauma drama. Keeping fingers crossed that Explosive pulls through. :fl Prolapses aren't fun.

The doeling is...
What's with the camera? Nice batch of other goats...but we wanna see Explosive! She's been a great trooper... Looked like the first one was an ordeal.... And it looks cold and noisy! (Glad there's no sound)
I tuned in and caught the Holstein-y doeling being born with a...
I looked in earlier at about 6:00 and thought she looked kinda uncomfortable. Flipped on a few moments ago with a bowl of popcorn. Way Cool! Thanks for putting up the webcam.
Just two?
I've never knowingly eaten goat meat. But since it is the most consumed meat in the world, one would assume it's not all that bad.

What to do with wethers? How to avoid the perils of Craigs List?
If they're purebred and you cannot bear the thought of Little Bucky becoming bbq, you can...
Your contract was for a breeder's lease and replacement value; there was nothing in there about purchasing the animal outright. That is not part of the contract as it's not a lease option to buy. The only valid reason for you to send a check for $200+ is IF something happened that rendered...
