Had to let them in to see how to do the holes. I'd like them a bit larger, but alternatively, shearing heads would stop tags catching & heads seeming too big to get out.
Shearers are a pain to maintain & sharpen all of the time. I'll have to try bending out every other hole & then covering those shrunk in between holes. That gives them all wiggle room.
New tarp put up!
Cozy in there now.
Gotta secure the feeder down & get rubber mats so that I can sweep the poop away.
The 8th is the earliest possible due date. Patchie seems closest.
Oreo waiting for his new owners to arrive.
Down to 2 mature rams & a yearling. Much easier to do breeding groups with fewer rams!
I have decided to remove fencing & combine paddocks. The 4 at the back will turn into two & the 3 side ones will also reduce into two. Those, I'll have to move a fenceline over & then remove the other.
45 ewes is too many for such small paddocks! I'll use the fencing to create more paddocks on the big field. Guess I need to get to it asap, as once grass is in, it'll be a hassle!
I have 16 ewes, just got 5 more, keeping 3 ewe lambs, and on a list for 2 registered ewes end of April. Ummmm……. That makes 26 for next year. I have 25 acres, but only 1 field, maybe 3-4 acres, fenced. Working at clearing fence rows of 40 years of growth so I can take down barbed wire and go up with new posts and sheep and goat wire.
The grass is coming on, I have 7 ewes and 3 lambs in my one pasture and they can’t keep up with it now. Ram and 9 ewes in front yard, going to move them and combine both groups. New 5 are still in quarantine.
Trying to figure out grass. Cross fencing for rotation grazing is still a dream. Working on front field, may take all summer to clean up and put in new fencing.
