Hello Rabbit Enthusiasts!

We have upwards of 35 rabbits and at this point we visit our local feed store a little less than weekly to purchase rabbit pellet food. We were advised to feed 8 ounces a day/rabbit and were told that overfeeding would discourage breeding. We have GOT to do better here in Central Florida. Is there a source that sells rabbit pellets in bulk > 50# bags that you now of? I am thinking we need to store food in large galvanized cans and purchase by the pound or SOMETHING.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Our TS will give you a discount if you buy 20 bags at a time. It is not much but every bit helps.

We have a co-op, actually more than one, and they sell it by the 50lb bag and give a discount if you buy 20 at a time, and a bigger discount if you buy 40 bags. have a co-op in your county?

Also, our co-op does deliver in bulk. Our co-op has a one ton minimum for delivery. No bags, they dump it in a feed bin. We have a wooden bin with a lift up lid, made out of plywood that holds a ton of feed. We put it on wheels, but it is hard to push, even on concrete with very good wheels. We really don't need to push it out to them, they have a long auger that swings out and can go through a doorway and dump the feed into a bin inside your barn. Of course it depends on your set up. Inorder to do that you would have to have a co-op or feed mill in your area that makes their own rabbit feed or is willing to make rabbit feed for you.

Hey there,

Thanks all. I am going to present these suggestions to Lee when he gets here.

Thanks again.

L

P.S. Okay, I was embarrassed to ask, but what they hey I won't learn if I don't. Where I come from "coop" stands for cooperative . . . so what type of "co op" am I looking for in our area? I know, I know, it's probably a basic question. I am a serious neophyte to this life, not quite a year yet with loads to learn. We have a couple of "feed stores" besides TSC, but they are a joke rabbit foodwise (jmho).

Ours are listed by county. So for us we would look up the county name in the phone book followed by the word "cooperative." You may have to expand your search and look at neighboring counties that you are willing to drive to. I do know not all areas have them.

Good luck, It is also possible to have small privite feed mills. So I would just keep researching. I do hope you find something more affordable.

Your local feed stores don't sell 50 lb bags? Ask them if they can order them for you. My local stores carry the 25 and 50 pound bags.

Do you feed strictly pellets? Or do you supplement your rabbits feed with anything else? We mix our pellets 50/50 with whole oats. Gives them a little extra something and stretches it out a bit.
