I’m sorry it didn’t work out for you this time. I waited for YEARS to get my goats. But now I have six amazing goats, with LOTS of kids on the way. Goat math at it’s finest! :celebrate Just keep putting your baby sitting money away and your day WILL come!!! We will be rooting for you.

@Mike CHS was right. This will give you time to work on getting your paddocks fenced off and time to clear out any poisonous plants. You can also plant some nice pasture “plants” like purple top turnips, which goats just love, and what about floribunda roses around the perimeter to pretty things up? Goats LOVE rose bushes. Ask me how I know??? And of course you have one of their favorite delicasies . . . Wild blackberries. :D. We pull forage, from our woods all the time. I’m not sure what y’all have up there in Oregon, in the woods behind you, but we have lots of oak, cedar, hickory, wild privet, beautyberry, gum trees, bois d’arc (horse apple) and briars, not to mention a wide variety of weeds. We are never at a loss for yummy browse for our goats. One Christmas, we took a hike back into the woods, and cut a small cedar tree down. We dragged that back to the goat yard, and the goats had a feast. When they were done, we just had a skeleton of a tree.

I feel like Charlie Brown, I'm all wishy-washy! :barnie Today I got an email from the folks who have the two Nigerian Dwarf doelings. I figured they'd been sold, but I was wrong. I was told nobody else had expressed interest in them yet, that I sounded the most knowledgeable (hmmm...maybe so but I have ZERO experience thus far!), and that they're hoping the goats can go home with me.

So it got me rethinking the whole thing yet again.

Mostly it's the cost that's got me hemming and hawing. The initial cost is hefty...at least $400 to get started. However, the money I make babysitting ($200-300/month) should cover the monthly costs (correct me if I'm wrong...I'm only looking to keep 2-3 Nigerians). We still have some tax refund money that I could use to cover that first big chunk 'o money.

Arg. I REALLY want to jump in head-first...and the husband doesn't seem to mind, either way...

@Devonviolet I love the idea of planting things for future goats. I can see buying rose bushes, planting them, and having them scarfed down in a day or two. :gigWonder where I could find them cheap? We don't have a paddock to fence off since we're in town. I have a BIG, two-tiered backyard with 6' tall "city" fencing (wood), so they'd basically have the run of the yard. I DO have a graveyard of rocks (not sure why, they were here when we bought the place) that I'll have to move so the goats don't use them to escape the yard. The only poisonous plants that I'm aware of (I've looked and checked online to make sure) is our Rhodie trees. Or, rather, stumps. There aren't any flowers or branches left on the Rhododendrons, thanks to my boys, and plans are to cut them down to the ground. I didn't realize goats could eat up a tree like how you described. I'll have to check out our woods and see what things we could "harvest"...

I'm still here. :gig

Being it's the weekend, it should be easy to get some hay and goat minerals, etc and call about those babies. I was told they're being bottle fed...I've never bottle fed before. Is it hard?

Editing to add: Is there a thread that lists all the "stuff" one needs to bring home two bottle fed kids?

Ask the person you buy them from what you need to go get. Maybe they will give you a starter kit to get you through the weekend. Still not gone??????? :weee

Still not gone. o_O Talking to the husband and he says next weekend will be better as we have other business to attend to this weekend. I also have to call this lady and have her answer a few more questions. She hasn't answered a couple of things...and then confirm a time we can pick'em up.

But soon!! My maybe has turned into a :yesss: !!
