I signed up earlier in the week and a friendly forum neighbor suggested I introduce myself. I live in a mountain valley in far western Wyoming. Have a few goats (whethers) for packing and will be getting back into meat rabbits in a couple of months, after several years away from them. We have done dairy goats in the past as well. Usually have a few chickens and a duck or two around. A couple of dogs wander the place, as well as a couple of the neighbor's cats. Have raised hogs. Have had horses, but got too busy to ride them enough and gave them away. Have a about 2 acres, so enough room to stretch but not so much that I think I need to have a herd of cattle (that happens a lot in Wyoming). Most of our meat is home raised or off the forest (deer, elk, grouse, rabbits and antelope down in the dessert country).

Oops, how did that get there? (My humor may be intolerable to some...)

Welcome! I've always wanted to learn more about training goats for packing purposes - love the pics. Feel free to share any experience or training tips.

Greetings from National Western Stock Show. That's really cool. What part of Wyoming are you in?

Poka_Doodle, I am about 70 miles south of Jackson, along the Wyoming/Idaho border. I note that you "wish I were skiing." You would love this country. Lots of snow. Nordic, alpine, telemarking...

Just another big howdy and welcome from the Great Lone Star State, where the stars at night are big and bright! Glad you found us! There have been several folks looking for information on getting into packing with goats... so how do you keep them out of the suitcase? Doesn't the "mehhhhhhh" tip off TSA at the airport? Just messing with you, I know you don't put your boys in a suitcase (they all wouldn't fit in one anyway).

OK, I'll be polite. Grab yourself a beverage from yonder table, and no you can't feed the warm beer to the dog no mater what he says. Looking forward to hearing your adventures in the wilds with your goats.
