I have heard that Pygmy goats are decent milk goats for thier size, and I was wondering if anyone here had Pygoras, and if they found them good for fiber and milking, or mostly just for fiber? I know they are small and naturally produce less, but I was wondering if the crossing of the angora with the pygmy lessened productivity?

I have a Pygora doe, I don't do any thing with fibre so just comb/clip her in the spring. She has raised babies really well, seems to have a lot of milk but I have never actually milked her with any success, I think that is just a combination of her hating it badly and my inexperience. I finally decided I didn't need milk from her enough to deal with it as I have ND's who are much easier. She sure does give pretty babies tho.

Pygmy goats were originally meat goats, they are not good milkers. As far as being a mix maybe the angora will bring more to the table...LOL

Angoras usually only produce enough milk for a kid. Twinning is uncommon for them. Most of their caloric intake goes into fiber, not milk. I have an Angora doe and while I haven't bred her, her udders are very small.

Full-size Angoras are dual purpose--fiber and meat.
