I sold Dazzle's buckling a couple weeks ago.

I sort of 'had a feeling' that the people who got him weren't quite as knowledgeable as they claimed, when they got here they started pointing at an Oberhasli and asking if she was a Boer, and then said of Bullitt, my new jr. boer buck "That's a fat Nubian". :idunno

When I suggested they use cow milk, not replacer, to raise the buckling they bought, the husband says to me, "She knows everything about goats...she'll do what she thinks is best."

WELL!
They also mentioned they'd lost several goats this winter....which has me thinking, "Well..if she knows so much...." but...I :duc

These people have always emailed right back when I've emailed them...several times a day sometimes.

They wanted me to let them know if I got another Nubian doeling, so on Saturday I emailed about Doodle's doeling.
He emails back, says they want her, and that they've "sent a deposit"...as in, already did.

On Wednesday, I emailed to let them know it hadn't arrived...I heard nothing.
Thursday, I email and say, "I still haven't recieved the deposit...haven't heard from you. I'm going to put her back up for sale."
No reply.

Today, I sold the doeling.

Then...I get an email from them..."We sent the deposit, I will check today and see if it came back to us (wth???) and just letting you know, the wether you sold us died. My wife said it wasn't growing. It was fine Tues. and dead on Weds."

:barnie :hit :tongue

He was such a sweet, healthy boy...:(

I'm thinking that maybe he didn't do well on replacer...and we have had -20 dg temps at night the past few days.

I feel so bad about him dying (we rarely lose kids) but I refuse to feel guilty if they didn't follow my suggestion about the milk, and waited until after he's dead to contact me.

Not to mention...I really don't think it'd take 5 days for the mail to get the deposit from 2 hrs away in the same state....

99% of the people I deal with are wonderful...it's that 1% that make being a goat farmer :somad at times.

If a kid isn't growing, wouldn't you make some sort of change or take it to a vet or contact the breeder you bought from? Obviously stupid people who probably shouldn't own any animals. Worst part is, they will probably tell everyone how they got a bad goat that died from Roll Farm. Hopefully most people will realize who the problem really was. That kind of stuff is so frustrating. As much as you try to screen people, some people just know how to say the right things and get past you.

Gosh, it must be the week of bad customers. :/

I'm sorry that happened to you. That obviously was NOT YOUR FAULT that he died. What I would not do was sell them another kid that needs to be bottle raised. Maybe point them in the direction of a young, weaned goat?

Nah, they've lied to me....and they 'killed' one of my kids...(or let him die...)
I'm done. I wouldn't sell them a well broke mule now.

You'd just have to have dealt w/ them to 'know' what I'm saying...but these people are not dealing straight.

(Poorboys knows, she learned the hard way like I did...)

Thanks for listening / sympathizing....I know we've all been there.
I just hate that he's dead. :(

That's awful news. So sorry to hear the buckling died. All newly purchased animals are lucky if they go home with breeder instructions and those instructions should be followed. Kudos to you for sticking them on the "do not sell to" list. I have 2 cute little NubianX bucklings recently adopted. I am using "store bought" whole cows milk because does don't freshen til end of this month and wow the difference from formula is AMAZING, no crying, no tummyaches, no diarrea. I will switch them back to does milk but I am so glad you mentioned store bought cows milk as an option, I would never have tried it. THANX!

So sorry you had to go through all that, but it's not your fault. We learned the hard way about milk replacer with our very first ND kids years ago. Lost a doeling, even though we sought vet care for her. Since then we've used store bought whole milk and haven't had any problems with our kids. We tell all our customers to use off the shelf milk instead of replacer, but we're certainly not responsible if they don't listen. Consider yourself hugged! :hugs
