Baymule’s 2025 Lambing

@Ridgetop i think you are right. The ram was born covered in yellow gunk, was floppy and took forever to stand. He had a rough birth. He may have delayed the ewe lamb being born. Big Girl lavished care on him until I wondered if he was the only one…….but she was huge! Finally toes, but no contractions. It’s like she gave up. Oh well. I have a ram lamb and saved the ewe. I’m gonna decide to be happy about that.

I had the exact same thing happen my first lambing season. Huge ram lamb delaying birth, tiny ewe lamb stuck behind. I'm sorry you lost the ewe lamb, that's always tough, but I'm glad mom and ram are doing ok!

I weaned 3 ram lambs this morning. Fancy’s black ram was one of them. He’s the one @Margali wants. Poor baby was scared to death, calling for momma. I went to the other field and got Spot the bottle lamb, already weaned, but he still loves me. This evening when I fed them, I sat on the edge of the feed bunk. Black ram wouldn’t come to eat, hungry, but scared. I poured some feed on some hay and he ate. Spot of course ate out of my hand. With Spots help, I was able to get the black ram to eat out of my hand. Full of feed, hand low of the ground, nervous, but he ate.

I found Tiny’s triplet ram yesterday in a crumpled heap, bloated and cold as an ice cube. I thought he was dead. I picked him up, he moved, alive. I brought him in the house and warmed him up with a hair dryer in my laundry basket. I gave him Nutridrench and he perked up a little. I had to finish things outside, so I did that and came back in. I wound up holding him with a heating pad over him and a big towel to hold in the heat. I gave him baking soda water, electrolytes, more Nutridrench. I had to go do evening chores, robbed a heat lamp from the chicks to keep him toasty warm.

I made him comfortable when I went to bed. When I woke up this morning, he was dead. What happened, I don’t know. I just tried my best but he is gone.

Can’t win them all.

My vet always said "SSSS" -- sick sheep seldom survive was true to goats.. They are often not well but don't show it until too late. Survival from predators built in from wild.

This morning Daisy had a single ram lamb. Daisy is half White Dorper, daughter of Granny, half Katahdin, daughter of Cooper. She was bred to Little Ringo.
