@Baymule Do you have plans for all the ramlings yet? Thinking Cassandra might like raising one as meat wether...
No plans for them yet. I’d be delighted for her to have one. When does it need to be born? I have 3 now1-1 week old, 2-1 day old. The 8 ewes that were with Cooper will lamb starting in June.

Birthdate will depend on when it needs to attain proper weight. You need to check for the local Youth Livestock Auction/Fair and ascertain the dates. Many fairs will require the exhibitor be enrolled in a 4-H or FFA program for the area. Check with TAMU-AgriLife Extension for those programs.

Depending on the date of the fair/show/auction the exhibitor will need to own the animal either 90-120 days prior. Each class will have a weight minimum/maximum.

One of the registered ewes that I finally got papers for, is showing a little udder. Her due date was April 9. Evidently that didn’t happen. She and Ringo must have had another rendezvous or two….maybe 3, who knows? But she has a swollen belly and an udder, so excitement! She also is wild and has not succumbed to my charms.

I separated ewes this morning. I weaned the 3 ewe lambs in the process. I took fecal samples on Texas Five P18, Cleopatra and treated a big abscess on her. I’ve been waiting for it to ripen. She fought all the way. I had a halter on her, tied and cross tied. I squeezed out goop, then washed it out with peroxide, squeezed it out again, repeated it, then filled with betadine. Pretty sure she hates me now. I petted her and hand fed her some feed.

P-15 is the sweet one I call Granny. I only took a fecal sample from her.

P-16 was having none of it, when I opened the gate for another ewe, she dashed to freedom. I’ll do her tomorrow.

P-18 and P-15 are with Cooper now. P-16 will be with him tomorrow.

I also put with Cooper, BTX 1901, Frimplepants, Ewenique and Dessa. I took fecal samples from them, but not Ewenique. She must have pooped it out, there was none “handy”. I trimmed a few feet too.

I looked out the window, it sure looked like the little triplet ewe was out of the pen. Buford was hovering over her. I went out there and sure enough, she popped out of the cow panel. Buford was NOT playing with her! His face was all wrinkled up in concern. I put her back in, gave Buford lots of praise and petting.

BUFORD DID SOMETHING RIGHT!!!

I was busy today. I decided to Jack up the portable building and block it up. I cranked my tractor. Carson wanted on the tractor so bad! Just look at that sweet face!

Son had blocks in the back of one of his trucks.

Marigold did her best, but at 23 HP, there’s not a lot of power there. I got a pad and cinder block under each corner.

Then I did the other end.

The front is sagging.

I got a steel plate and dug under the building to set up the bottle jack.

Jack wouldn’t work, does it need fluid? Dunno . Something told me I didn’t need to go crawling under the building to set blocks under the runners anyway. So I texted Chris and he’ll come over in the morning and get it blocked up.

I baked a batch of oatmeal raisin cookies for Chris and his family. I’ve made them brownies, chocolate chip cookies, pies. Chris’s brother is allergic to nuts and chocolate, so this time I made oatmeal cookies.

I also got my 60’ round pen set up today. It took awhile, each panel is 10’ long. My daughter called and I told her I was finally getting it set up and didn’t remember the panels being heavy. She said that’s because you always had help. Yeah, I did. I had 3 panels to go and neighbor Chase showed up to cut dead pines out of the fence line. He helped me finish it up. I’ll be working Reina in it soon.

Chris and his brother came over, jacked up the building and leveled it. Next is bringing the heavy stuff I can’t move. Chris said maybe Monday. Then I can move more stuff. I start looking for tools, I have whatever it is, it’s not here. Go to son’s house, go through shipping containers, can’t find it. Go buy another one……
