Trip into Burns yesterday. Boone was the perfect boi, as always. The odds of getting an Anatolian Shepherd who behaved like him, was one in a million. He enjoyed visiting with all his friends at the ranch store again, and hearing the same stories about dogs they used to own. As long as they pet him, he’s happy. He wore his boots for the first time as the pavement was terribly hot. He did well except he couldn’t figure out how to get his butt back in the vehicle when unable to feel the ground with his hind feet. He didn’t try to remove them or anything. It baffles me how many people comment on them and seem to think he wears them only because they look like Crocs. It never seems to occur to any of them his feet would blister. I guess it just doesn’t occur to them since their dogs don’t accompany them.
During my appointment yesterday he proceeded to sprawl out on the floor so doc was pinned to her little desk, unable to push back to get up. It’s astonishing how huge he can make himself

I worry about my dog’s feet even just for the parking lot distance between the car and Tractor Supply’s door. I guess it’s true I don’t take them anywhere else to have to worry about it!

Been a really rough week for me, luckily my meds should finally arrive Wednesday so maybe relief will be forthcoming. Probably not right away, but eventually.
Meanwhile I have nothing better to do than marvel at how regal and distinguished Boone is…

It’s a dogs life!

This has been going on for more than an hour. Apparently the other antler has no flavor. As you can see by the date, it’s a regular event.

There were a LOT of coyotes last night. They were baying so loudly it made it seem as though they were at the rock wall. Boone was terrified. He was scratching on the door and talking at the window to get in. He’s just a baby-dog @ 8 months old and he KNOWS, he cannot take them on. Poor Boone. Glad I woke up to let you inside buddy, but checking on Randy at 2 am probably wasn’t your best decision…still, I gotcher back
But you DO have to get off of your bed to eat…

One of the baby rabids escaped from Evil’s cage. Boone found her on the other side of the yard when I called him. Randy hollered “is this rabbit supposed to be out?” (Hold my tongue, hold my tongue, keep sarcastic comment to yerself) I said “no, Boone, help!” (He will never have direct contact with rabids , neither of us can run or reach the ground so catching it was out of the question, and he’s so far good with fowl, but it’s easy to keep them separated)
Boone trotted over, GENTLY picked up the baby rabbit and brought her to me, totally unharmed. He is incredible.
Do I think he would have played with her to death if left alone? Of course. He’s a baby dog, but still, incredible how soft his mouth is and how well he understands me.

Boone did NOT like the 4 hr drive to town. He cried most of the way down the 35 mile dirt road and intermittently on the way in this morning and he is loud!! Poor poneh!
It was a long, hard day. Asking a lot from a baby dog who spends 2-3 mo in the house then suddenly gets thrown into an all day 16-18 hr working trip. He became claustrophobic at the restaurant to the point where I just took him out and we walked around outside while Randy ate. He just was very unsettled and anxious…and squished. He was really squished

He did really well at Lowe’s. He enjoyed meeting people and he did a lot of work on down stays, item retrieval and finding the sweet spot of exactly how much pressure to put Against my fingers.

At the ranch store I was really proud of him because there were several dogs and he was really good about it. We stopped a short distance away and he just sat and quietly observed never tensed or made a sound. It was really great. There was a gaggle of kids by the bunnies and they asked and he was pleased to meet them and give kisses. He’s eyeball to eyeball with most of them.
I spend more time than you’d think answering questions, explaining about his breed and why he is special, and why I allow him lots of positive interactions with strangers while most SD teams should not be disturbed.

He napped through the afternoon while Randy did errands and I stayed in the car with him. By the time we went to the hospital, he was pretty done in and was happy to nap on the floor while Randy had his ultrasound. (All nurses asked to pet him) Then when we went to dinner, I asked them if there was someplace where there was a table that we wouldn’t be blocking foot traffic, because he would not fit under the table. (We clearly have a little work to do on placement, he didn’t want to go anywhere near that table )
But he was really good. Some kids actually stepped over him on the way to the bathroom. The waitresses carried trays of drinks and aromatic sizzling hot food right past him, stepping around him he, he never so much as moved a whisker.

We still have a lot of training yet to do, but I think even with the odds against us, we are doing really well.
The next trip we will be staying overnight for the first time, so I’m hoping that goes well!
