Boone spends almost zero time with us at night now. He ran something off (most likely a coon) from near the rabbits the other night. The ducks are loose in my garden (please Mr Coon, somebody, take them with you!! I need my garden back!) And not much is holding the coop together after all these years… so he sleeps on a dogbed on the back porch, protecting his kingdom, keeping them all safe from intruders. What a guy!
Mama Rabbit that just recently kindled, somehow kindled again today. Her first litter has only been out of the box a few days. I took it away to fit more food and water and today there were 7 huge new kits on the wire. Poor Mama tried to pull fur but it just went through. I feel bad.
I pulled the dead babies out and gave them to Boone. Heath, as nurturing as he was, would eat the dead ones I gave him as they are quite the treat. After cleaning up and getting everyone fed, I headed back inside to find Boone 1/2 way, with a pile of baby rabbits cuddled up between his paws and a confused look in his face.
I imagine he’ll figure it out eventually, when he’s unable to revive them. He’s such a gentle soul, the big gazork!
