You've got a nice start.

Here's my favorite livestock breeds website: www.ansi.okstate.edu/breeds

You'll find TONS of breeds there, though many are not very common here in the states. A breed that is making a showing in carcass contests here in the states is the Braunvieh. Other fairly common beef breeds are the chianina, corrienti, romagnola, salers, and tarentaise. Then of course there are the composite breeds: braford (brahman/hereford), brahmousin (brahman/limousin), charbray (brahman/charlois), and santa cruz, among others.

From what I can gather the Braunvieh and the Brown Swiss are the same?

There are so many breeds out there it's hard to hit them all but, now when I get the chance I have more info to dig through.

The brown swiss and braunvieh were orginally one dual purpose breed, similar to the shorthorn and milking shorthorn. However, the two breeds have since diverged and become two distinct breeds, the brown swiss selected for dairy and the braunvieh selected for beef. They are now quite different. The braunvieh is claimed to be outstanding in maternal and carcass quailty traits.
