Okay. I had briefly glanced at the two on the site you gave, must have missed something.

You know it's not only a difference on what country you are in to what breeds are popular but, within the U.S. it depends on where you live. I had put the breeds on that we are familar with here and have added a few since that I hadn't heard of due to them not being in this region.

You've got a nice start.

Here's my favorite livestock breeds website: www.ansi.okstate.edu/breeds

You'll find TONS of breeds there, though many are not very common here in the states. A breed that is making a showing in carcass contests here in the states is the Braunvieh. Other fairly common beef breeds are the chianina, corrienti, romagnola, salers, and tarentaise. Then of course there are the composite breeds: braford (brahman/hereford), brahmousin (brahman/limousin), charbray (brahman/charlois), and santa cruz, among others.
I've added these breeds. Two pics won't reduce down but they are there. There are a lot of breeds on that web-site! I'll keep it in mind when I'm adding other breeds. I don't want to add breeds that may not be something that members don't have an interest in so, I'll wait and see.

I have seen Sundog mentioned on BYChickens a few times but, I can not seem to find a pic. Does anyone have one or know where I can find one?

Does anyone else have a suggestion on what should go on the breed page? There are a lot of breeds out there but, I don't want to put on ones that members are not interested in, if you know what I mean.

Hi! I'm so very happy I found this forum. I'm still in the 'dreaming/research' stage of bovine bliss, but I love everything I am learning.

I noticed you don't have Kerrys on your list. I believe ALBC has a page about them. They sound great.

Will your page have information about each breed eventually? I think that would be really helpful.

:welcome

I will check into the Kerrys. I have thought about putting more info on each breed on the page but, need to decide how I want to do it.

I've added the Kerry and I've also added some links at the bottom of the page to sites that give more info on the different breeds.

Howdy,

I am bumping this up for the new folks.

Here is a great link to all the cattle and livestock breeds.

Would be a great source for your BREEDS page.

This website has good basic info and photos of dozens of cattle
before they all went black.

www.ansi.okstate.edu/breeds/

Click on the Cattle tab at the top of the opening page and then select the breed you would like to know about.

example:

Click on Cattle
and then click on Sh-Sz
In the left hand column click on Simmental
You will see what a traditional Simmental looks like.
You will learn all the different names this triple purpose breed was called as it migrated to other countries.

This breed was known as
Fleckveigh in Germany
Pie Rouge, Montbellard & Abondance in France
Pezza Rossa in Italy

The traditional color and style of these animals is becoming a rare quality since the decision to change the breed to all black and solid red.

Even though the original color and style of this magnificent breed has changed drastically in America the past few years, the incredible traits of this breed continue to enhance many other breeds. Simbrah, SimAngus and the SimHerf ( I call them Smurfs ) are just a few.

Farmer Kitty, I would be honored to donate a good photo of a real Simmental for your Breeds page.

Thank you for all you do,

Janis
