Can of Beer helped piglets feed

See my other post for reasons why we moved a Large Black mum pig and 6 piglets only hours old - anyway she wouldn't settle and not interested in the piglets treading on them and knocking them away - it was just not going to work out.
A scoop of ground oats and barley mixed with a can of beer and down she went all chilled out - we scrached her belly and got all 6 piglets feeding. Her motherly instincts kicked in and all is now good

You dont knock out a 700 lb pig with one can of beer but it does calm her down enough to get the little guys fed instead of squashed.

Something I never knew. Beer to calm a mother pig. Truly glad it worked so that those sweet little piglets can get the nourishment they need from Mom.

It's an old trick that certainly works well. Just be sure it's "lite" beer, or they will get too fat!

She had just the one can as her motherly instincts kicked in - she's a very good mum now so I can have the rest of the beer
