Our town just passed a similar law. I can own as many goats as I like (I know a lady in town with 300+ on 2 acres) but I am breaking the law if I own more than 2 dogs and/or cats without a kennel or cattery license. The rules pertaining to a kennel even get so specific as to state what kind of footing your kennel must have, and what material the feeding dishes must be made of.jduffy01 said:I would contact your local zoning officer and ask him. I am in western NY and live in an area zoned agriculture/residential. This means I can have as many livestock as I want without hassle. I believe the right to farm thing is more about legalities with lawsuits and such, but i don't know much about it. Your zoning officer should have the answers for you. I had to laugh when finding all the rules in my town out. I can have cows that poop a ton and not get a permit but if I wanted more than 4 dogs I needed a kennel lisence and they were worried about dog feces disposal. I justified my Great Pyrenees by stating they are LGD and they didn't give me any problems.
Wow, a neighborhood that won't let you garden on under 5 acres? I think I'd be making "flower beds" full of tomatoes and squash lol. Grow some fancy varieties and call them ornamental!
Good luck, hopefully you will find out you can get some goats.
